Lego back. I'm going to follow through idea of a carb meal -- not a day. On Friday, I'm going to eat one sweet potato. I'm craving it so knowing that I'll get one on Friday motivates me!
Don't worry about "falling off the wagon" but what I find helps is lots of trader Joe's no sugar chocolate (100% cocoa -- no fake sugar either) and almond yogurt (I put cocoa powder and stevia in it). I also load up on butter now -- I eat everything in butter (eggs, spinach, meat) and I get full. There are free trail mix and chips at my work and I just am disgusted by it now (before I would binge on that stuff). I also thinking that telling yourself that you can have it -- but tomorrow -- works. If I still want it, I'm having it but often I don't still want it. I really miss sweet potatoes so I'm having one. Remember that we're doing it for the rest of our lives so it needs to be sustainable. I also don't think we're all posting when we go off plan. Like yesterday was my 500K day but I ended up having dinner and dessert and I just decided today would be my 500k day instead but then I ended up having breakfast. It's fine. |
^ I like this idea, to tell yourself you can have it tomorrow.
I'm looking at my food logs and thinking it looks like I have some sort of disordered eating when I see I'm meeting my carb goal but under for calories and fat (and over for protein initially, but I'm adjusting). I truly do not think I do, but I get the critiques. Ines |
Just a gentle suggestion but introducing carb cycling or planned cheat days within the first few weeks or months Keto might not be a good idea if you don't have good will power. Lets face it here. We wouldn't be doing a diet like kept if we all had will power in the first place -lol. Eating the carbs on carb cycling or planned cheats will bring back not only the water but can also bring back much more intense cravings for more carbs. You will end up discouraged because the water weight comes back and craving carbs even more. The majority of people who do Keto end up quickly gaining back all the weight and usually gain something like 10% more. One of the upsides to Keto that it reduces carb cravings once you get through the beginning.
Not every diet is right for every person. If you find yourself going off plan, having a binge night or struggling when you add in cheat days or carb cycling then its good to find a different diet or you could end up in a yo yo cycle and heavier than when you started. |
Aria again. Today is officially the 2 week mark. I weighed myself this morning and it shows the same as a few days ago - 151lbs, so I have lost 8lbs. Not too bad but was really hoping for more to be honest. Just have to keep powering on, I am 1/3 of the way there. |
Congrats aria! You should feel great about being 8 lbs down, especially so quickly!
Random PSA for folks - I made keto meatballs last night and had them with Thrive Market’s Wonder Noodles “spaghetti.” I usually use zoodles, but wanted to try something different. A whole package has 0 net carbs and very few calories. I was pleasantly surprised to find they aren’t completely disgusting. Are they just like real pasta? Nope. But they do the job. My quest for a tasty keto bar continues. Tried the Dang almond vanilla bar today and liked it a lot more than the Quest bar. Has anyone tried the Perfect Keto Bars? I’m traveling for several days next week and want to have some good non-perishable snack (or breakfast) options on hand. -Sylvia |
I haven't tried them Sylvia but some things that I have found are nonperishable good snacks - Chomps meat, Sriracha Almond packets (Blue Diamond) |
Thanks PP - I just ordered snack packs of the siracha almonds. The look yummy! |
Fiber doesn't count, so asparagus will be less than that |
I'm also using net carbs and not total carbs.
I am still planning to have a sweet potato on Friday but I do see the problem for carb cycling for most people. I don't have a will power issue though. It's just that I gained a lot of weight in my pregnancy with my son (Lego Jr) and even though I eat healthy, the wright never came off. I'm an older mom so that or the hormones could have been the reason. I definitely didn't eat as healthy before last week since I would snack at work but that was it. I have not lost any water weight and I didn't have any keto flu so i think it's a bit easier for me to do carb cycling. I also am not losing any weight though but I have started exercising and I look a lot better. I would like to make this a lifestyle change. I cannot give up set potatoes for the rest of my life. I can give up rice and grains and most fruit but not apples, either. Maybe I'll have half a sweet potato on Friday. I think it's weird that we're giving up sweet potatoes. |
Ines again here- the person who commented on the asparagus. So for instance I made a green smoothie this morning- cucumber, ginger, parsley, kale, mint, lemon juice. (It's really good and "healthy" tasting by the way). Even without the squeezed lemon, it's 20 net carbs for 32 oz. So I'll just have 1/4, but the idea of limiting mostly green veggies (the bulk is leafy greens- mint, parley, kale) |
I'll go by Jane about 2.5 weeks in and have lost about 10 lbs. I'm surprised that no on has mentioned fat bombs. These are the best part of this diet. Google fat bomb recipes.
My favorite is chocolate fudge. 1/2 cup among butter 1/4 cup melted coconut oil 1/4 cup cacoa or cocoa powder a few tablespoons of kept friendly sweetener (non sugar) Mix together and pour into small silicon or ice cube trays. But in the freezer. Eat when solidified. |
We haven't posted about it, because we don't know about it! Thank you for sharing. I'll try on Friday (my "cheat" meal since I'm going to have one sweet potato with chicken and leafy green vegetables.) Just to clarify, "among butter" is almond butter, right? So the only fat is coconut oil. I know almond butters can add up the carbs quickly but it's my cheat meal, so I will go for it! --Lego (and Lego Jr.) -- still 20+ pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight (no weight loss so far, but a lot more energy and definitely more fit) |
So if you do a cheat day, I'm assuming you just have to be really careful to not eat a ton of fat that day? Or how does that work? |
You will lose weight faster if you don't indulge in keto sweets and fat bombs included. But they are okay once in a while if you are really craving smth sweet.

If you’re cheating and not losing weight, you’re probably not in ketosis.
