Keto: Thread for Group Starting 6 May

Totally. I wear a heart monitor while working out and my working so much harder, even though my workout hasn’t changed.

I have heard that some people will eat carbs pre-workout, but I’m going to guess that could be during the maintenance stage of keto?

Sia here. I lost 5 lbs last week.

I exceeded my carbs limit on one day (went a little overboard with cherries and strawberries). I must admit that I fasted only for one day (24 hrs) instead of two (again, I decided that it would be a shame refusing fruits as soon they will be out of season).

How is everyone doing?

I went over on Saturday because I didn’t want my raspberries and strawberries to go to waste. Note to self: buy one or the other at Costco, not both. lol.

My husband found the keto stuff in the vitamin aisle and bought some snacks that I really don’t want in the house. I’d rather just stick to low carb food and not the man-made stuff.

I seem to have dropped out of Ketosis yesterday. I’m really not liking this diet anymore after 2.5 weeks and down 4 lbs. Wondering if I should just give up and do whole 30 instead...

Sorry, I don't remember - do you track calories?
Maybe it's herecy but I think it's not as important to stay in ketosis all the time as it is to have a consistent calorie deficit.

As you probably know, any diet works if done consistently. And it's true that keto is not for everyone. Anyway, here is a good article, if you haven't seen it maybe you'll find it useful.

okay progress again! Since I follow DietDoctor there are tons of posts by Dr Fung too. He advises fasts, so I’m on one and feel great so far! He has a few books out the Obesity Code and one on fasting.

Hey June bug, I am genuinely glad for you! I like fasting too. I fasted yesterday and plan to fast again tomorrow or Friday.

For how long have you been fasting? I now feel that 30 hrs+ is not enough, I am not hungry at all and energetic, so I am going to extend my fast next time.

Junebug: I was a bit too ambitious. I was aiming for 60 hrs based on my schedule but ended up at 42 (Sun eve to Tuesday afternoon). I wonder f it’s better to do it when you’re not at work and at a desk job where it’s easy to obsess over the time? Not bad though and I dropped a couple more lbs and more importantly, my pants felt looser. I broke it gently with bone broth and waited a few hours then had a light keto meal. I felt okay so I snacked tonight on bacon after the kids were asleep! I normally don’t eat breakfast so my next meal will be a work potluck tomorrow - I’m bringing guacamole and celery so I have at least 1 thing there to eat (food tends to be cheese & carb heavy at these events).

I am a SAHM and I wonder if fasting would have been easier at work Being away from one's fridge and pantry definitely helps.

Wow, that was still quite a long fast for a beginner! My longest fast was 40 hrs and I started feeling nauseous at the very end so I stopped.
I am going to fast tomorrow. My favorite pants start getting too loose, yay )))

Fasting is much easier if you are busy and away from home all day long! No doubt about that at all.

So three weeks in and I might be stalled? I probably shouldn’t weigh myself every day, but it was so fun to see the numbers of the scale drop! Today is day three of hovering around the same weight.

As I wrote before, I think the snacks made for keto are part of the issue. I need to mix the snacks and just have some strawberries after dinner and be done for the day.

Junebug here: I stalled at 3 weeks too. Then I started reading about the Obesity Code. Try some intermittent fasts!
