Hi Everyone!! I have been doing Keto for about 5 months. Ive fallen off the wagon a couple times but over all have lost 25 pounds. My partner has lost 45! I am determined to get back to it and stay with it through the summer. I stumbled on this thread and I'd love to follow along. I'm Jo
We have tried TONS of "keto products" so if you have questions about brands let me know. My fav snack that tastes like a mozzarella stick is to melt some shredded mozzarella in a pan, pour it on a plate, cut up and dip in marinara sauce. Rao's is very low carb per serving. I make keto cheesecake, its basically any cheesecake recipe with no crust, sub erythritol for sugar and its amazing. Also just a note....if you have a cheat day you probably won't get back in ketosis for at least 24 hours. I'm not saying don't treat yourself but it takes awhile to get back in line! |
Yes 'among' butter is almond butter., sorry. Its actually low carb. The key to buying almond or peanut butter is to get the more natural brands that don't have added sugar. You get fats from the coconut oil and nut butter. These are really the only way that I can keep my fats high. I was finding easy to keep carbs under 20 but was going on over on protein. I can't eat butter straight or chug olive oil so these really worked to get the right balance and they taste amazing. |
Okay, my fellow Keto-peeps,
I am feeling great. I still have tons of energy and my clothes are feeling loose. And, I finally lost weight! The scale says that I'm down 2 pounds. I'm not sure why it took 2 weeks to get here, but I am happy. I have been doing 10 push-ups and 25 crunches (almost) every morning so I think there is a huge difference from just minimal exercise, too. Oh, and I cooked sweet potatoes for dinner and am about to sit down with the family -- we will see how this experiment of "carb cycling" goes -- I love that the cravings are gone, so let's hope it works. I'll report again tomorrow. Lego (and Lego Jr and Mr. Lego) |
Lego here.
I just wanted to report that sweet potato did not go too well. First off, they did not taste the way I remember them, so I think my taste buds have changed (they used to be my favorite food and they didn't taste sweet at all). Also, I couldn't sleep like I had endless energy. I couldn't go to bed until almost midnight and woke up at 3 AM. The boundless energy is good but I feel like I will crash which is not good. My body had a sugar high which does not mix with sleep. I definitely want to carb cycle because long-term, it is the most sustainable and healthy, but I don't think I will have a sweet potato craving for a long time. |
Aria here checking in. I am almost 3 weeks in but seem to have stalled at 8 lbs down so I am feeling a bit frustrated. I am counting macros, logging everything I eat and am definitely staying within my allotted calories/carbs/etc. I am going to start doing 16:8 intermittent fasting a couple times a week to see if that helps.
If not, I may need to give up dairy since in the past that has been an issue for me. But, the only dairy I have is a little heavy cream in my coffee in the morning and a serving of cheese one time per day, whereas before I would eat it with every meal. I hope to drop at least a couple lbs this week. |
Ines here. I am wondering the same for myself. Something about the dairy is too much for me- makes me feel gross. It has been a problem in the past for me tolerance wise, but does it also count as an issue with respect to weight loss? |
HI all, Greta here. I’m now down 22 pounds (I had regained 2 during some off plan days but they’re gone again). I stalled a while back and quitting dairy did the trick for me. I just really love real cream in my coffee so I eventually went back to it. But a dairy fast is a great idea...thanks for the motivation! |
Try the Stoka bars sold on Amazon. Expensive but worth it! |
Dying to know -- what are the noodles made of? And what are keto meatballs?
I made the keto fat bombs (put in tons of flax seeds so they are healthier). They are really rich so you can't eat more than one. I don't think eating them was great for me but it's fine. I got a bit off track because I bought a juicer and started making celery juice (with just 1/2 an apple). It's delicious but shouldn't be everyday -- even celery juice has too many carbs. And then I've been ordering "breve" cappachinos and that's another way to get off track. But it's been weeks without sugar or grains so that's a huge plus. And I get like my body feels healthier and my hair and skin are better. I need to remove the dairy because that's where too many of my calories are coming from still. Cheese is my go-to snack and the key is to stop snacking. A healthy alternative to dairy? Chia and flax seed soaked overnight in almond milk? I haven't tried it but I heard it tastes like a rich pudding. After the sweet potato, I am back up so still at 140+ with 20+ pounds to lose. But I never lost/gained water weight, and feeling better. Now it's time to get tough and give up the dairy! --Lego |
Congratulations! You’ve lost 22 since May 6?!! Do you mind posting what you ve been eating? Thanks! |
Oh no, I wish! 22 pounds (was 25 but then I went wonky for a bit) since Jan 15. But I’ve had several off plan weekends etc. if I can keep losing slow and steady but also have the flexibility I’m ok with that! |
Ines here.
I bought a Keyto and I'm finding it depressing ![]() |
I think it can easy to make mistakes on Keto. Carbs add up so even with extremely low carb foods you need to pay attention to portion size. The upside of Keto is that is suppresses your appetite so your need to eat more than one serving of asparagus or whatever is easily satisfied. If you are the type of eat a lot of something if it tastes good then you'll have problems even eating strictly off the veto approved list. Protein gets turned into glucose so over eating protein will also mess you up. For some people artificial sweeteners (diet soft drinks) or alcohol really interferes with kepo so avoid this in the first few months. Drink water, lots of water.
I also think that you are setting yourself up for failure early on by carb cycling or focusing on the foods that you can't have. If you spend the first few months doing solely Keto, portion control and counting the carbs and protein then you'll be a completely more capable state of mind to later on introduce some carb cycling. |
Does anyone know anything about clean keto? Does that mean no meat? No cream cheese? |
I think it just means being really strict and eating only fresh, Whole Foods vs eating “dirty” with tons of Keto baked goods, bars, wine etc. |
