Keto: Thread for Group Starting 6 May

If I'm not hungry and haven't met my fat do I have to eat it anyway? I don't understand how to eat this much fat AND not go over carbs.

From what i’ve read, no, you don’t have to eat all your fats if you’re not hungry. I don’t, according to my tracker. It’s sorta like the south beach diet that way as it’s low fat.
Do watch out for overeating protein.

Pp here. Meant to say that the south beach diet is (I think) a low fat version of low carb. I tried it once and lost weight but felt horrible. I feel much better with the higher fat diet.

A question I’ve been trying to get answered, maybe someone can help. Can you get into ketosis without the meeting fat requirements in my macros calculations?

I have the same question!

No. Ketosis is achieved through eliminating carbs. Meet your protein requirements, limit your carbs, add fat for satiety, but not needed.

Lego here.

Sorry it's the middle of the night. I'm a lawyer and had a long work day.

Breakfast was spinach eggs with swiss and lox cooked in butter and coffee with cream, and then coffee with the keto mix.

Lunch was chicken salad.

Dinner was kale cooked in the fresh mozzarella marinating oil and then mixed with the fresh mozzarella.

Dessert was strawberries with cream.

Midnight snack was a glass of almond milk.

Today was a very heavy day but I'm doing 5:2 so tomorrow is my 500 calorie day which will be coffee with keto mix and then cobb salad.

I barely moved today so I went way over calories out. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

I'm not clear on what the answer is - you cannot or can get into ketosis without meeting fat requirements? "No," you can't get into ketosis without meeting the fat requirements ... but also fat is for satiety and not needed?

Britney here. Fat is simply for satiety. I guess technically, you could enter ketosis if you just reduced carbs and ate a "not too much" amount of protein, but you'd starve. Fat keeps this doable.

Today's menu:
B: egg scramble with leftover grilled chicken, pepperjack cheese, peppers, onions, hot sauce. Coffee w/cream.
L: Steak salad with cheese, onions, cucumber, hot salsa and a bit of ranch.
S: Pepperoni wrapped cheese stick
D: Baked chicken (topped with a mayonnaise/parm/poultry seasoning mixture), cauliflower rice, roasted broccoli.

I had tea last night for something to keep my hands (and mouth busy) last night, but I definitely need to come up with a different approach. I'm giving up wine on the weeknights (which is tough for me - I usually like a glass or two in the evenings) and that tea was a sorry excuse Any ideas for a dessert type thing that isn't going to blow the budget?

I've noticed that I'm 4 days solidly in and don't have any signs of the keto flu like I did the first time I started. I am supplementing with natural calm magnesium at night and liberally salt my food. I'm wondering if I'll get away unscathed this time. Anyone having symptoms?

Fat is not needed to get into ketosis. Ketosis is achieved through eliminating carbs.

I’m one of the posters who started May 1. I’ll go by Sylvia here.

Re: desserts, I’ve been eating sugar free jello each night which has 0 carbs.

Also been taking a mulitvitamin, magnesium supplement and eating oodles of salt. I felt off on day three, but some bone broth helped pretty quickly.

Today’s menu:

Breakfast: 2 Outer aisle cauliflower thins topped with avocado and smoked salmon with “everything but the bagel” sprinkle.
Lunch: trader joe’s Turkey burger with avocado in a Bibb lettuce bun. Side salad with cucumbers and Greek dressing.
Snack: Flackers with Trader Joe’s fiesta cashew dip.
Dinner: chicken fajitas (topped with cheese and sour cream in Bibb lettuce leaves) with Mexican cauliflower rice.

I think the fats are for safety. Ketosis is not harmful but a high protein diet can create ketoacidosis which is very harmful and can be life threatening. Its more likely to occur with ketones present and a high protein diet. If you can't carbs and you don't eat many fats then you are eating a high protein diet. If you limit both protein and carbs then you are left with fat.
