We enjoyed working wtih Moxie - we just signed our second kid up. I think first kid ended up where we would have thought but really glad we had Moxie to walk him through the process so that it was really his decision making and not ours when it came to admissions strategy and applying. We are an FCPS family.
They were referred to us by a family with two students in a DC private. They were happy enough the first go-around that they used them again!

If it moves, as sometimes happens, would it move forward or backward in the week?

The eclipse in the 8th and we're making travel plans but I'm not sure how much school the kids will miss.

I was planning a trip, but my kid has a big test that makes up like 50% of their grade that they would be missing.

You're planning bit travel for a Wednesday in the middle of a week with no other days off?

I am -- taking my 11th grader to see a couple of colleges in PA.

Will FCPS really move the day off??

Use attendance form to keep kid out of school due to illness. They will have to let you make up the test. Done.

Don't overthink it.

Yeah, my kid is not one interested in missing/having to make up tests. We'd rather just reschedule our trip if it's possible.

I called FCPS EERelations/Community help line. They did not think that FCPS would move the day off but transfered me to someone else who also didn't *think* it would get moved but transfered me to someone else who would know for sure and I had to leave a message.

James Jackson from FCPS called me back. He is with the Employee Relations group. He said FCPS will NOT be moving the April 10 day off even if Eid actually hits a different day.

Sometimes I wish DCUM weren't anonymous so that I could know how reliable this post is.

Cannot figure out how to login right now but I am the one to spoke with James Jackson -- my name is Claire Meade -- my son is a junior at SLHS and I have been planning to take him to PA for college tours on April 10 so I was posting earlier about whether or not this date could be changed... instead of all the back and forth here, I just called FCPS and while it took them a day to get back to me, they did!

Hope this helps! The info is as reliable as James Jackson's word (well, and mine)!

Why are you putting your name and your son’s school online for anyone to see?

Well, someone was questioning the validity of my post that James Jackson called me back with the information I supplied here anonymously. They wished DCUM was not anonymous so they could tell how reliable my post was.

I outed myself and also shared why I was so interested as to go to such lengths to get real information instead of reading anonymous post after anonymous post of people pontificating what may or may not be.

Yes - I should have just logged in to post -- but as I said in that post, I couldn't figure out my login and figured it would just be easier that way.
We went to a Lazio game our first night in Rome last year for Spring Break for FCPS. My kids were 6th and 9th grade. The 6th grader is a huge Premier League fan and loves all things soccer. We had a great time.

We bought tickets directly from Lazio website. We were staying in a family-run boutique hotel and they gave me this advise re stadium areas:

Lazio is a great team, and the game Lazio Sassuolo is an absolute nice game (family friendly) so if you have the opportunity, that is a game to go!

I would not buy tickets for the "curva" , so I would consider either "distinti" or even better "tribuna tevere" or "tribuna monte mario"

if you want to leave the decision to go or not for last minute, you can do that because I do not think the stadium will get filled with sassuolo (so you might want to wait until you are here to decide)

regarding the website where to buy tickets for Lazio vs Sassuolo, I would go to the offical lazio website:

https://www.sslazio.it/it/biglietteria/prezzi-e-gare

We used a tour company to book all of our other tours etc and they arranged a driver for us that picked us up at our hotel, got us as close as possible to the stadium (still a walk from there) and then told us where we were to meet him for pick up after the game. We were totally jetlagged and know no Italian but we loved every bit of the game and had no issues. We even got stadium food (and my oldest kid has food allergies and they were great helping us through that).

We had been to a DC United game but this was a unique experience.

The only other thing, I think they switched the schedule on us from when we first looked at tickets to when we actually bought them so do check/recheck schedules.

We loved our trip and I'm happy to share other info if you'd like!

Enjoy!

is when they are send to the "principal office" but the teacher will write a displcine refferal and the AP will talk do the student most likely the next day or so , re the indecent .

No, it needs to be much more than getting sent to the office. Getting suspended goes in the discipline section.

Nope. My 4th grader had one put on that you could see when SIS had the discipline tab... but there were no details about the incident. So last year (when he was a 6th grader) I emailed the AP and asked about it - she wrote:

Hello 😊

I am wondering why you cannot see the reason in ParentVue. Unfortunately, I don’t have that view to help you navigate it. Sorry! I can thought explain what happened. That was a long time ago! 😊 These are the notes from the incident:

“Offender was not listening or following directions. He would not shut the laptop after being asked 3 times. He took the teacher chime and used it in class without permission. He laughed at the teacher."

An incident only stays on a student’s record for 5 years. It will automatically come off on it’s own after the 5 years. I am pretty certain that it will not have any impact on his future here in FCPS. Even though it is on there, it was 2 years ago.

Let me know if you need anything else! Have a great weekend 😊

So yeah, if your kid goes to a school like this one, Lake Wobegon, where "all of the children are above average" -- what calls for discipline is at a whole different level...
I know RCMS is down from a high in the 1500s to the 1300s... but the Principal said that was in part b/c of a drop in births... evidently 2009-2010-ish were low birth years so seeing less students overall in middle school.

Really? So I looked it up - https://www.prb.org/resources/u-s-fertility-in-decline/#:~:text=The%20birth%20rate%20for%20women,births%20to%20unmarried%20women%20declined.

Rachel Carson is using lockers. My kid struggled to figure out how to open it. Sigh. I must have helped 5 other families too. Hopefully the kids will remember or be able to help each other come Monday!

My youngest DC is at Rachel Carson so ok, probably considered a "good" school.
My oldest is at South Lakes.... which, based on the other thread probably is not considered a "good" school (we are zoned for Westfield HS a "good" school maybe - but pupil placed to South Lakes for the IB program).
0 for MS and 0 for HS -- all experienced and returning teachers

Leave it to the kids... I have a kid in HS-- he had a friend who posted hers on SnapChat and then it erupted as everyone started sharing.

Assuming this doesn't change by morning when it hits Sis -- you can see classes, teachers, and periods under the Grades tab in Schoology
Thanks! My DS is U14 - this is his first year trying out. He is a GK and I think there were 8 at tryouts so not great odds! He was "called back" for the first practice.
Any thoughts on ODP tryout/selection process?

Anonymous wrote:Haha, my child's FCPS elementary school had a total of 23 cases last week; they are up to 12 cases so far this week. Coincidence this outbreak coincides with lifting the mask mandate?

BA.2 is more contagious, and omicron doesn’t provide immunity from the new strain. It will not be surprising when those who got omicron get infected again. We are sticking with masks in our family until we see how this plays out.

OP here and I agree with you, we are doing the same. But masking tends to be way less effective when it’s unidirectional. Of course it is better than nothing. I’m glad spring break is coming which may slow the spread of this some in the schools?

I don’t mean to be Debbie downer, but I know many many families who are only keeping the mask on until spring break so they don’t have to ruin their trip. These families that are masking in schools are ready to rip them off after their spring break trips. yes, a good fitting mask is better than no mask at all, so do what you need to do for your family. It’s tough to know the right thing to do.

That’s us.

We're just not testing at all anymore.

We wouldn’t either unless someone is really sick, but international destinations require a test before you arrive.

Not all international destinations require the test -- Germany and Italy don't. But you will need a test to come back to the US

Why are you moving clubs?

Happy to chat online here or off -- my kid is Valor 09B. We are formerly CYA.
don't know where the closest Let's Dish is but I just did Dish and Dash last month -- you order ahread online like regular but you go anytime on your scheduled day and they have everything made for you! you just open the cooler and go. i was almost embarassed to do it, until another woman walked in behind me and was doing the same thing! when you don't have time... you don't have time. there is a $30 fee i think to Dish and Dash -- last month they waived it. i believe some of the Let's Dishes are offering a special on Dish and Delivery this month -- check out the website for sure== but I think it is something new they are trying.

BTW -- we have loved their February menu (that's what I dished and dashed). my husband is generally fairly picky and we haven't had a bad meal yet. even my DS who is all of 17 mos has found sevearl things he loved!
