what is a discipline refrrral ? |
is when they are send to the "principal office" but the teacher will write a displcine refferal and the AP will talk do the student most likely the next day or so , re the indecent . |
Interesting. My DC (elementary school) was sent to the principal's office several times last year, I was called each time but there's nothing in the SIS discipline tab. I asked for a behavior intervention assessment/plan several times and I wonder if they didn't document it because they did not want to do a FBA. |
No, it needs to be much more than getting sent to the office. Getting suspended goes in the discipline section. |
Nope. My 4th grader had one put on that you could see when SIS had the discipline tab... but there were no details about the incident. So last year (when he was a 6th grader) I emailed the AP and asked about it - she wrote: Hello 😊 I am wondering why you cannot see the reason in ParentVue. Unfortunately, I don’t have that view to help you navigate it. Sorry! I can thought explain what happened. That was a long time ago! 😊 These are the notes from the incident: “Offender was not listening or following directions. He would not shut the laptop after being asked 3 times. He took the teacher chime and used it in class without permission. He laughed at the teacher." An incident only stays on a student’s record for 5 years. It will automatically come off on it’s own after the 5 years. I am pretty certain that it will not have any impact on his future here in FCPS. Even though it is on there, it was 2 years ago. Let me know if you need anything else! Have a great weekend 😊 So yeah, if your kid goes to a school like this one, Lake Wobegon, where "all of the children are above average" -- what calls for discipline is at a whole different level... |
It depends on the AP and teachers and their level of tolerance. I posted on page 1 that my son had a bunch from elementary. He did things like not want to sit on the carpet and was really squirmy and touching kids around 2nd grade. He had a teacher who was quick to call for help and a principal who was quick to call home so there were a bunch of entries. Then comes 3rd grade. His behavior didn’t change much but there was a new teacher and new principal so it looked like he never got in more trouble. In middle school he got one when a teacher caught him on Discord in class and wrote a referral. I got a phone call and noticed it on there for a student handbook violation. |
Agree with this. |
Fascinating. This must vary a ton by school. I got a couple calls a year in K-2 and nothing ever showed up on the discipline tab in SIS. There was one pretty serious incident where DS and a buddy were throwing rocks and broke a car window in the teacher parking lot.
DS is in 6th now... haven't gotten a call since 3rd grade. So for any of you parents of young boys... it can get better. Not going to complain that it appears our school doesn't really use that tab. |
Are teachers required to complete this discipline form? Once the principal or AP addresses the issue, call the parents, etc. do they document their interventions on the form? My DC has had numerous visits to the principal and AP office, I've been pushing for an FBA, and their response has been that the behavior does not warrant a FBA referral. I'd like to request these referral forms for my DC to strengthen my case that DC needs behavioral intervention and supports. |
I thought it was only for suspensions or just wasn't used in elementary. My ADHD son was in trouble daily before medication with near daily emails home and trips to the principal. But nothing in his discipline record. |
Did I miss the answer to the question. It's not there. Is it coming back? If not, how will parents know?
My kid got one in 1st grade, we never got a call till we called them after we saw it in SIS. Is it secret now? Or simply another IT fail. |
so "referrals" don't |
what grade is he in now? it will go away after 5 years, but you can go to school and asked for the records. |
sometimes it might very by students. Did he have an IEP before starting ADHD medication? A few times my DC got referral but nothing really happens .. |
did they make you pay for it |
