Is April 10 a school holiday?

So they change it and now they just move that to another day? Or schools plan a field trip for the 9th or 11th and then have to change it if the holiday moves? So now we aren’t planning for 1 day of this holiday but keeping the whole week open?

Was this confirmed by FCPS?

No but I’m wondering since people seem to think it should happen.

Seems like a lot of hand wringing over something just because "people [on DCUM] think it should happen".

Nobody said they think it should happen. They said because Eid CAN change so could the planned date of the holiday, possibly. That’s it.

If it moves, as sometimes happens, would it move forward or backward in the week?

The eclipse in the 8th and we're making travel plans but I'm not sure how much school the kids will miss.

I was planning a trip, but my kid has a big test that makes up like 50% of their grade that they would be missing.

You're planning bit travel for a Wednesday in the middle of a week with no other days off?

I am -- taking my 11th grader to see a couple of colleges in PA.

Will FCPS really move the day off??

Use attendance form to keep kid out of school due to illness. They will have to let you make up the test. Done.

Don't overthink it.

Yeah, my kid is not one interested in missing/having to make up tests. We'd rather just reschedule our trip if it's possible.

I called FCPS EERelations/Community help line. They did not think that FCPS would move the day off but transfered me to someone else who also didn't *think* it would get moved but transfered me to someone else who would know for sure and I had to leave a message.

James Jackson from FCPS called me back. He is with the Employee Relations group. He said FCPS will NOT be moving the April 10 day off even if Eid actually hits a different day.

Sometimes I wish DCUM weren't anonymous so that I could know how reliable this post is.

Cannot figure out how to login right now but I am the one to spoke with James Jackson -- my name is Claire Meade -- my son is a junior at SLHS and I have been planning to take him to PA for college tours on April 10 so I was posting earlier about whether or not this date could be changed... instead of all the back and forth here, I just called FCPS and while it took them a day to get back to me, they did!

Hope this helps! The info is as reliable as James Jackson's word (well, and mine)!

I get this thread hasn't been replied in 3 weeks but the big issue is the 2025-26 calendar. It is a week longer then this year and next year
2023-24 started August 21 (we just had February 29) last day of school June 12, 2024-25 first day August 19 last day June 11, 2025-26 August 18-June 17 (10 solid months). That year needs to be shortened by a week.

Two months is plenty of time. I prefer shorter summer breaks and more breaks during the year.

Why are you putting your name and your son’s school online for anyone to see?

Well, someone was questioning the validity of my post that James Jackson called me back with the information I supplied here anonymously. They wished DCUM was not anonymous so they could tell how reliable my post was.

I outed myself and also shared why I was so interested as to go to such lengths to get real information instead of reading anonymous post after anonymous post of people pontificating what may or may not be.

Yes - I should have just logged in to post -- but as I said in that post, I couldn't figure out my login and figured it would just be easier that way.

Umm. Easter is determined by the moon that’s why it changes year to year.

Yes but it's not determined the same way as Easter is determined and can even vary among Muslim groups.
