Do the kids have April 10 off this year? Is there a possibility that it might change to earlier or later? |
Schools are closed for Eid on April 10. |
If it moves, as sometimes happens, would it move forward or backward in the week? The eclipse in the 8th and we're making travel plans but I'm not sure how much school the kids will miss. |
As of now, the Internet still predicts, that being the date. |
I was planning a trip, but my kid has a big test that makes up like 50% of their grade that they would be missing. |
They already know they have a test at that point? |
Sorry, we have to wait for some random dude to look at the moon before we know. Ridiculous way to run a public school system. |
I am Muslim and we know the days way in advance, I guess its like Easter, FCPS just doesn't seem to know or care.... |
Sorry, what does this mean? I am from a minority religion as well and I appreciate the effort FCPS has put in in recent years to be inclusive. I don’t think this is the attitude you should have. |
Like our kids will have an excuse absent if they are out or not, so its not a big deal for us if schools are open. Just don't understand why they change the rules in the middle of the game, I don't understand how they add a new day off when some parents will not be able to get childcare that day. |
I've been told that (at least some) Muslim countries don't know the date way in advance; the day off is chosen relatively close in time, relatively last minute. |
Nope, last year FCPS had to change the holiday because Eid changed. Easter is known for years in advance. |
Easter goes by calendar so it is always known well in advance. Eid goes by the moon , so that can vary. Really not FCPS fault that Eid is guesstimated and can shift with the moon’s phases but they have to make the calendar 1-3 years in advance . |
While it complicates things if it moves- is that poss here?- 180 days of school is 180 days of school. This was built in so you aren't losing anything,
Chill. |
I’m an atheist who works for a local school system and I admit that I am thrilled that they are closing schools for every Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu and Chinese holiday. Less work for me for the same paycheck. |
