Does your middle school use lockers?

My child will be at Cooper. They are going through a renovation. I saw a lot of lockers but was told they won’t be used. I was wondering if this was just for Cooper or all middle schools.

So do kids carry/wear jackets all day?

Mine always did, when his school was under renovation. Even when it wasn't, there isn't a lot of time between classes to visit a locker and he said they were mostly used by kids who had sports or other activities after school and needed a place to stash equipment.

Frost is undergoing renovations too and there has been no lockers. Kids don't wear coats because it is one more thing to drag around. The backpacks are ridiculously heavy

Rachel Carson is using lockers. My kid struggled to figure out how to open it. Sigh. I must have helped 5 other families too. Hopefully the kids will remember or be able to help each other come Monday!

Kids wear jackets? I rarely see the MS or HS kids wearing jackets.

My kid went to Luther Jackson back when there were more students than lockers and he never used a locker. Yes, they just keep their jacket with them all day. I bought him a packable down jacket that was easy to stuff in his backpack. Even when he was eventually offered a locker, he didn't want it.

My older kids were at Cooper when they DID use lockers and they hated it — they were not allowed to carry backpacks (they had to use their lockers), which they didn’t like because it meant always going to your locker between classes. When I told them the news (my youngest is there now), they were like, “Oh, you will be happy about that!” I think they only have about 4 minutes between classes, so lockers are a real PITA.

Our MS assigns lockers but no one uses them.

Yes, and they are also making a rule that backpacks have to stay in lockers. Essentially forcing kids to have to make endless trips to their locker for supplies. It doesn’t make sense.
