5 lbs a month is not rapid weight loss. You should be fine. |
Agreed. I have gallstones and if I lost rapidly I would have gallstone attacks. I'm losing 1-2 lbs per wk and I am fine. |
PP here who was concerned about the liver. I too have gallstones, haha. And I too, bought size 16 (sigh) jeans about 3 months ago though was always size 12 pre-pandemic, and now they literally fall off which I am very happy about. Woman, 53 as well. I never believed I can lose almost 12 pounds in 3 months and honestly I am surprised and a little scared of how easy it was. I guess I should go to the health forum since people on this thread are probably totally healthy and not worried about their livers -) |
You're in the right place. Gallstone poster here, also 53. I have been on this thread a while. Started in May at 167 and now down to 140 lbs. Sort of plateaued here I think, but would like to get to 130 if possible. |
Hi, the fellow gallstone poster! Did you do your weight loss under any kind of doctor supervision? My initial weight was way more than yours, i am 5'8" and 178 now, down from 190, i have to lose at least 10 more pds. I am just using an app and never consulted any dietitian or such. Any advice as to how not to feel so hungry? I tried a boiled egg a day just when it gets too bad, but it made me constipated. I cannot eat fruit because of fructose and fatty liver connection. I used to eat 3-4 honeycrisps a day. |
27 pds is my ultimate goal. How did you do it? |
Salads with lots of greens and lean proteins. You can only eat so much spinach before you are full or tired of it. I dress mine with plain balsamic vinegar to keep the calories down, dressings kill the value of salad. Can you have cherry tomatoes since they don’t have much/impactful fructose? If so, I’d do several cups of spinach, a serving a lean protein, tomatoes, a sprinkling of a cheese you like- I prefer goat or blue on my salads, and balsamic vinegar. That’s a typical lunch if I’m at the office. If I’m home, I scramble two eggs with chopped up tomatoes, spinach, and a slice or two of whatever deli ham or turkey I have around to make a hot meal. Sort of similar, but a hot lunch feels like a treat. Both get me a filling meal at <300 calories. |
I think someone answered this on my behalf, which is funny. But Im' the other 53 yr old with gallstones. I didn't consult a doctor or follow any method other than changing the way I ate. I knew I was eating badly. I would have 2 large croissants with jelly inside for breakfast some days. That is like 800 calories. I started to look at what I was eating in terms of totals and then decided I'd aim for 1200-1500 per day. Half an avocado is 100, a baby bell cheese is 70, a packet of pistachios is 120, a piece of cooked peppered salmon is 240 etc. I stopped adding cream to family meals, or butter to mashed potato and have smaller portions of those meals. Like 1/3 of what I'd normally eat. If I am hungry I'll have half a banana or a decaf with low fat milk. So long as each meal is enough, I don't normally get hungry in between. The mistake I made once or twice was to have a tiny lunch of only about 200 calories and I was very hungry before dinner. That was unbalanced and didn't help so I don't do that any more. |
DP with no gallstones and I think intermittent fasting and low carb are helpful for hunger pains. I know snacks aren’t an option so that takes some of the temptation away. Nights are worst for me so I try to go to bed on the early side. If I really want a little more food, sometimes I eat a few slices of sweet heat bread and butter pickles! Crazy but it’s a lot of flavor and barely any carbs or calories. Not too many though because they’re salty. I’ve lost over 80 pounds so far.. Good luck! |
Unfortunately it's usually the case that you cannot do intermittent fasting if you have gallstones as that is literally what triggers them. |
I just hit my goal after 4 months of very slow weight loss on Noom. I lost 9 pounds (7% of my body mass) and feel great! |
Superb! Well done. This thread has been quiet for a while, though I do check it. |
Hi, could you please advise how to break through a weight plateau? How long will it last?? |
That weight plateau went into a different question, here: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/0/1086485.page#23521897
I responded there. I have actually had luck in cheating and having my weight go up, and then not getting stuck again on the way down. That said, it took me 8 days to get back to normal after I had a whole bunch of celebration food over the weekend for my anniversary, ha! My new question is, when your height goes down as you age (I used to be 5 ft. 7.5 inches and now am barely 5 ft 6 what?!), do you readjust your BMI according to your new height? That is such a bummer, I might have to lose more weight to be "normal." I'm asking this question even though I sort of know the answer is yes. I just don't want it to be!!! Good luck, folks! |
If you were flat on the ground with your neck extended, say for a massage or a chiropractor, you'd probably still be the earlier height. What is happening is your spine is curving and getting tighter, you're not shrinking, your back is compacted. So you're still the same height / person just a bit squashed. Use the usual ratio anyway, for a sense of progress. I'm sure I'm not 5'7 any more either but I'm sticking with that. ![]() |
