Nice! Thanks for sharing this, I need some motivation/encouragement. |
Just tagging on (hope that's okay) because I am ALSO 53 and have lost 75 pounds in the last 13 months. I went from 257 to 180, mostly through diet (generally low carb through lots of salmon and chicken and also started intermittent fasting about 5 or 6 months in). Every Friday I eat a burger and chips though, ha. I have only started adding in some exercise -- and only walks -- in the last month or so as I have felt more fit. Hoping to lose another 25 before moving to maintenance.
Go, OP, fellow lion of fitness and weight loss! |
Wow!! OP here….that is tremendous - way to go!!!! |
That's pretty great! How tall are you? And OP how tall are you? |
OP here….I am 5’ 5” |
I'm the above PP but not OP -- I'm 5 ft 7. |
Ah thank you. I'm 5'7 too, the PP who asked. That is helpful to know for comparison / encouragement. |
I love this thread. I am 55 years old, 5'8" and have lost 12lbs with low carb eating since March. I have 23 lbs to go. This has been a stressful time for me with an ill spouse and difficult teenagers, so I am thankful to have made any progress. It is possible over 50. |
Awesome thread! |

This is great! What is your approach? |
I limit what I eat. So I don't eat the sweet stuff or the fried / fatty stuff ever and I focus on limiting what I do eat to about 1200 calories per day. Skim milk only, no snacks, balance. It's good and it feels like a permanent change, not a quick fix. I think I can happily eat this way now as I'm rarely hungry and I also rarely have stomach issues, it's all an improvement. I'm sure that the weight loss will just level off at some point. |
Doing this in the face of adversity is actually a huge achievement. ![]() |
+1. I thought exactly the same. BIG acccomplishment! |
Great thread. I am also 53 and have lost 9 pounds since mid-May on Noom. 5-6 more to go! |
