Hi IP-ers, Sarah here. I'm 3 weeks in and 7 lbs down. I seriously can't believe it! IP has really helped me to reduce my meal sizes and eat more vegetables... I'm loving it. How is everyone else doing? Still hanging in there?
I changed up my IP products this week and it helped me get through the boredom of some of the food. I like the caramel nut bar and the peanut butter/chocolate soy puff mix. I've also been drinking the mango smoothie blended with 6 ice cubes and 2c spinach/kale every morning instead of the doppio. The doppio with shake started to make me feel sick because I don't like the shakes anymore. The mango is super sweet but sooo much better after greens are blended in. I may try the strawberry banana one too. I also discovered the sweet chili dorados with salsa is amazing and so filling. I get a regular salsa and add in my own fresh roma tomatoes, raw white onion, jalepenos and cilantro... sooo good! Have any of you tried new products? |
| Love the new chocolate "rice crispy" squares. That and the vanilla get prime freezer space. I heard the chocolate is delicious microwaved to gooeyness too. |

Hey Sarah, OP here! Congrats on your weight loss! I totally agree with you about eating better with IP. I was telling my husband last night that no matter what, I realize that my main diet is trash. Period. I was not eating enough vegetables, quality carbs or quality protein. This has definitely been an eye opener, and bonus that I'm feeling so much better.
Though I don't think I'm ever going to make cauliflower and broccoli work for me, no matter how hard I try. They are two of my favorite veggies but they affect me worse than eating a tub of ice cream, I just can't handle them. Maybe 1 cup at the most. 2 cups, no way! I "cheated" and got on my home scale this morning and was down 4 pounds! So I don't know if my diet adjustments that I worked into my plan did the trick, or if it was really just monthly cycle stuff. Either way, I'm thrilled and it was the kind of number I have been hoping for. I picked up Apple Cinnamon soy puffs and those are SO good. I use a little Hood's Calorie Countdown milk in it and it's just like eating Apple Jacks. I don't drink the milk, I just feel like they taste better cereal style than dry. I also really enjoy the strawberry wafers. Tomorrow when I go in for my weigh in, I'm going to pick up a box of the brownies. For some reason, the Dorados make me sick. They are sooo good and would go well with so many meals, but I just cannot eat them. Bummer. |
Hi OP, Ohhh thanks for the recs! Do you know if the strawberry wafers you like are the new unrestricted ones? I've tried the lemon ones and they're okay, but I haven't tried any others. Congrats on the -4lbs!! Keep it up! |

The strawberry ones are unrestricted! The restricted products I have are:
Dill Zippers (LOVE but can't figure out a way to incorporate them more) Caramel Peanut Bars (Meh, but I'm not a fan of Snickers, won't be repurchasing) Apple Cinnamon Soy Puffs I also have these Chocolate Chip cookies from Nashua Nutrition that are restricted. They are okay but I won't be reordering them. Speaking of, I incorporated a couple of NN packs into my meals this week and I really like them! Most are lower in calories than IP and some don't have quite as much protein, but I'm really enjoying them. I think IP excels with snacks and breakfast cereals and I like NN breakfast items (pancakes, oatmeal, etc) a lot better. The NN cereals are pretty gross, will definitely stick with IP for those. Veggie chili and the soups taste the exact same to me, so I will always go with NN because they are $12.99 per box vs $29.99 per box with Ideal. |
| If its not sustainable once you go off it, and the food is disgusting and you can't eat your whole life like that...isn't it kind of a waste of time? |
They have a way to phase off of the diet where you maintain the weight off. PP, have you even tried it before? If not, please refrain from your negative comments. Obviously we all know that once you're off this diet you can't return to eating unhealthy and large quantities. For many, it works, but you do have to keep up a healthy diet and lifestyle. With any diet, it requires a lifestyle change, not just a quick fix. Ideal protein is a great jump start to see fast results and lose weight. I love it so far and I'm glad I'm doing it. |
No. There are plenty of diets where maintenance is possible and works. I maintained my weight within 10 pounds for roughly 3 years using a modified version of WW, but struggled with getting the actual weight off. And I don't find the food to be disgusting at all, sounds like this isn't really the thread or the diet for you. |
| Week 3 and I am 2 more pounds down. Energy level is back to normal. I am realizing success is largely dependent on being organized about food choices to keep it interesting AND stay on track. Last minute decisions when hungry, tired or nothing in the fridge lead to BAD choices. IP is really the jump-start, not the solution. The solution is making a life long change in habits. |
| 18:11, congrats on your weight loss! And I totally agree with you, IP is definitely the starting point and I feel like I'm learning a lot about nutrition and how to make food taste good without over indulging in calorie laden ingredients. I'm glad that I'm responsible for preparing one meal per day, it forces me to get creative and to strategize and shop responsibly. |

OP here,
I've lost about 12 pounds total (haven't weighed in this week), am losing my hair in clumps and missed my period in May and still haven't gotten it in June. I'm also still losing muscle mass every week. My husband is a physician and never involves himself in my weight loss schemes, but he's gently put his foot down and wants me to stop. I am actually being treated for hormonal hair loss and traction alopecia and I've been under a derm's treatment plan for close to two years. It has taken me almost that long to fully regrow my hair, after getting monthly injections, applying daily topical ointments and spending a lot of time and effort on protective styling and products. To basically lose a year of progress trying to lose weight is pretty much a deal breaker. The diet works and I'm glad I tried it, but it just isn't sustainable for me right now. I've resumed my Peloton workouts, and I'm also back to doing weight lifting. I'm going to try a hybrid of Ideal Protein/Weight Watcher Freestyle until I can get a handle on things. Looking over the new WW plan, it does remind me very much of Ideal Protein. |
| OP, I'm so sorry to hear about your issues. Congrats on the weight loss and I hope whatever you move to works with the weight loss and the other issues. |
Sarah here! OP, oh no, I'm so sorry you had hair loss with IP 12 lbs is great though, so that's a great starting point and I've heard so many great things about the Peleton bike!
My total loss before a big event that spurred my decision to start IP was 15 pounds! I felt great going on my trip and transitioned off IP for the trip so that I could drink without being in ketosis. Oh man I indulged and overall after the week & a half trip I gained 5.5 lbs. I'm back on IP and down 1.5 lbs already so gained 4 lbs... it was worth it
I did get an inkling of how EASY it is to gain it all back.. I could easily gain it all back in a few weeks, which is scary! Getting back to eating my IP food after I've indulged is a lot harder than I imagined and now I see why people do it 2, 3 times... eeks! |
