Ideal Protein Diet

I know about Janeava too, I found her on Instagram. I ultimately decided not to follow her or her FB page at this time though, because I tend to get obsessed with diets and recipes and substitutions, and I don't think that mindset has worked well for me in the past. When I did WW and such, the only thing I was concerned about was buying ingredients to make this meal or the next, and not really focusing on the diet and the food I should be eating.

I will probably look into buying Janeava's book once I hit phase 2, but for now, I'm sticking strictly to protocol, and making my dinners as easy and tasty as possible without all of the extras.

Made "crack" slaw today, and it was one of those meals that I feel like I should have been making for years. So, so good!

Ah okay that sounds like something I would do too! I did read a great tip though.. ordering a double shot espresso on ice in a venti cup at Starbucks and adding one of the shakes.. so good!

I'm going to Starbucks in about an hour and I plan to try that! I hope it works out because eating breakfast in the morning is a drag on my soul, and I really dislike protein shakes on their own.

It's day 5 and I'm feeling great!

PP @ 7:27 have you joined the first phase Ideal groups on Facebook? They also have an alternate Ideal IP page that I follow, but I have mixed feelings about ordering alternative packets. People on IP swear that their weight loss slows if they aren't using IP products exclusively.

I did join the first phase Ideal group (Ideal Protein Supporters Phase 1 Group). I think the alternative products are a great idea for later... but I'm going to stick to the IP products for phase 1.

That's good to hear day 5 is going great! Let me know how you like the Starbucks drink. I tried it today with a chocolate ready to drink... i'm going to try vanilla tomorrow. Best thing is, the double espresso shots are so cheap compared to lattes.. like $2.60.
Anonymous
I tried it with chocolate today and I'm hooked! I dislike protein shakes so this was a massive improvement. I too will try it with one of the vanilla shakes they've given me.

I did place an order with Nashua Nutrition, but I think that for the next month or so, I'm going to stick solely with IP, just so I can see what my weight loss will be like. The NN is for emergencies, in case I can't get to IP to get what I need. And also, I found the IP pancakes completely inedible, and basically had to choke down the oatmeal, so anything that I refuse to eat on IP but don't want to give up (oatmeal and pancakes are my favorite food) I will seek out from other sources. Anything that I absolutely love or even like from IP, I will buy from them. So far I like:

The vanilla crispy square
peanut butter protein bar
vegetable chili
Potato puree
Chicken noodle soup
Chicken Soup
Protein Shakes (in coffee)
Dorados
Cappuncino mix, but I don't see much of a need for it with the espresso/protein shake deal
Chocolate Soy Puffs
Southwest cheese curls

I'm still working on my introduction bag, but I've already gone back to buy the vanilla squares and dorados. The bag is starting to become full of packets I would only eat if I were desperate, like the oatmeal and puddings. I guess tonight I'll try the mug cake, but I don't even like regular mug cake so I doubt this one will be satisfying for me.

I already had Walden Farms chipotle ranch dressing in my fridge, as I genuinely like it! My coach told me about a place close to the clinic that sells all of the WF items, so I went and stocked up. I got more dressing, syrup, and the packets of dressing that I can take with me on the go. Very convenient.

Safeway has WF on sale this week, and I was able to find Heinz No Sugar ketchup as well.

Can't remember if I mentioned or not, but I also got some electrolytes to add to my water and I feel that's helping me as well.

NP here with some advice my coach gave to me:

-Be careful of overdoing it with the vanilla krispie square. Even though it's "allowed," she has seen it slow results.
-Try not to have the chips every single day -- they can also slow results. I love the salt and vinegar ones, by the way.
-Be careful with any type of pre-made dressing and sauce. Olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon is the best dressing.
-Try mixing the oatmeal with a just a little water to make a "batter" and then cook it in a pan to make a little "pancake". You may need to use some non-stick spray -- use it sparingly though.

OP here,

Okay, so I am starting my second week and I feel great! The first couple of days were absolutely grueling and I NEVER want to go through that again, so it will be good motivation to stick with this in the future.
There are so many people on FB who've been on this plan for six months or longer and it's hugely inspiring to know that so many people can stick it out for so long, and I'm hoping I'm one of them.

My hunger and cravings are all gone. I can make entire meals for my family and not even be tempted to taste it at all. I did make a mistake the other day and I forgot to have my evening snack--which I know is important because the instruction sheet tells us in all caps to not skip the evening snack under any circumstance. Ah well, I don't plan to make it a trend.

The coffee shakes have been a game changer because I find it difficult to drink my coffee on its own, or eat breakfast on its own, but the espresso shake is a great compromise and I think it suits me well.

The vanilla crispy square love has kind of overstayed its welcome. I got tired of them by the third day and have moved on to other items in the bag and I haven't had the Dorados at all. The mug cake turned out to be decent as long as I add an egg white to it, some vanilla extract, and bake it in my air fryer instead of the microwave.

I've been forced to get creative with my vegetables and again, I can't believe that it has taken me so long to eat some of these on a regular basis. Funny how such a restricted diet is showing me how lacking my regular diet used to be.

Hi OP,
I'm going to call myself Sarah (the PP who started IP recently too). It's good to hear week 2 is going well for you! I'm on day 4 and down 4 lbs.. my starting weight was 137 and I'm 133! My goal weight is 115... what about you?

I haven't tried many of the products yet but I do really like the chocolate shake (with espresso), chocolate crispy square, oatmeal packets used for the zucchini muffins, chocolate soy puffs and my favorite is the chocolate brownie warmed up for 30 seconds. I have one every day so far.

I've been having headaches here and there but I find when I add salt and drink more water they get better. Hoping I get to where you are when the hunger is less!

Hi - I'm on a reboot having lost 40 lbs the first time (before DC#2).

I'd echo to be careful with the vanilla crispy square. I don't eat it at all now because it stalls me. If you must, treat it as restricted.

My 'rotation' is some combination of:

Vanilla premade shake with doppio
Chocolate crispy square (not the same effect as vanilla)
Strawberry or Lemon square
Hibiscus drink
Nacho dorados
Premade chocolate pudding

Sometimes:
Omelet
Peach & mango drink
Chocolate chip pancake
Mug cake

I am up very early so I have 4 packets/day as to not go beyond 4 hours between meals. I also don't eat an evening snack so my last meal of the day is dinner...e.g., 5am packet, 9am packet, 1pm packet + veg, 4pm packet, 8pm dinner. You can be flexible.

I make a strawberry rhubarb compote to go with the pudding, which really helps as I don't like the pudding by itself.

The balsamic and Italian IP dressings are good as well.

@16:10, I haven't gotten on the scale yet, I just started on Sunday. I was supposed to have my first weigh in tomorrow, but got a notification for an event that I'd put in my calendar two months ago and forgot all about, so we pushed it back to the following Friday. Hoping for a sizable weight loss after nearly two weeks on the diet. Don't feel any different, but I'm peeing a LOT, it's unreal. I had no idea that I was so dehydrated.

PP@ 16:46, I can sympathize. I did a vegan diet a few years ago, and I've never been the same. Not only did weight loss become progressively more difficult, but I developed and was diagnosed with food allergies (strawberries, pineapple, kiwi) that I didn't have previously and still have to deal with. The human body can definitely be fickle, but I doubt most people have the terrible experiences with vegan/vegetarianism that I did, I'm sure I was an outlier.

PP@ 10:46, welcome to the club! I hope we can encourage and support each other on this journey! My husband is super supportive, but I do feel awfully alone doing this. I haven't told friends or family what I'm doing because I don't feel like the criticism and discouragement.

@22:38, thanks for the words of encouragement! I started to feel a little better yesterday! I got in all of my vitamins, all of my water, and found some low calorie high protein water that I'm able to drink in the morning so that I don't have to force down a protein shake as soon as I get up, so life was pretty good yesterday. lol I also made sure I really got in my salt intake, and my two teaspoons of fat, and I think that helped as well. I also bought a trial size bottle of flavored electrolytes that I added to my water and I'm sure that was beneficial. I am going back to the store this evening to pick up a full box.

I'm surprised at how I'm not totally disgusted by the food, except for the protein shakes, but I find ALL protein shakes to be pretty disgusting. The oatmeal is edible, but needs help. The snacks, such as the "Doritos" are very good and very filling, I almost couldn't finish the bag. I also LOVE the vanilla crispy square and I have it every evening for my snack. I know I should switch it up, but I really like it that much.

I did not like the chocolate chip pancakes at all, so I won't be reordering that. I like the chicken noodle soup, and I had the potato puree with steamed broccoli, and it was almost like broccoli soup.

The veggies were a problem the first couple of days, but I'm getting the hang of it. 2 cups of broccoli or cauliflower isn't much at all and much better to get down than say, two cups of collard greens.
Still, I have to say that the vegetables and the water is the worst part of this protocol, because I'm not used to consuming so much of either.

I'm the PP that is starting IP. I joined a group on FB called "janeva's ideal recipes cookbook - phase 1". It has a lot of recipes and encouraging posts. I also found walden farm salad dressings at Harris Teeter which are 0 calorie dressings that a lot of IP dieters use. Also I read people supplement the day with pickles to curb their appetite.

Be careful with Janeva because while she has some great tips/recipes, not everything is strictly protocol.

Sarah here, oh awesome another person on it! Thanks for the advice... I'm actually not going to purchase her cookbook since I want to keep things simple. I did try the big mac salad recipe that was free and that was good.

Today I had chipotle for lunch - steak over salad with pico & salsa. It felt pretty indulgent from the simple salads I had the past several days. Do you think it's okay? I think I'll limit chipotle to 1x a week.

I think the issue with any eating out is if you don't know all of the ingredients and can't customize it. For example, you can't tell the staff to prepare the steak with no butter, simple seasonings, no salt, and so on. I think steak over lettuce with pico is not a big deal if you are generally keeping track of how many tomatoes you have this week as is it an occasional veg. No salsa. Personally, I never go to Chipotle because there aren't enough options (raw vegetables, EVOO/vinegar or lemon for dressing).

OP here, I was out the other day and couldn't get home in time for dinner, so I did a quick google search "Ideal Protein eating out" or something like that, and it led me to an IP clinic with a list of foods I could eat at Panera. Had a salad made with spinach, kale and romaine (and I could customize it as regular spinach, regular kale and light romaine to make sure I met my 2 cup veggie requirement), chicken (extra, to get close to 8 ounces) and I added one hard boiled egg for good measure. It felt like such a feast and I'm fairly confident that Panera meats are pretty lean without much added fat.

Hi Sarah!
Are you weighing yourself at home? I have not been weighed since April 6 and won't be weighed until April 19, so I'm not sure how much if any weight loss I've had. I'm scared to weigh at home because I don't want to weigh myself at the wrong time and then have to compare that to my weigh in at the clinic.

My goal weight is nowhere near yours unfortunately. I'm starting out at 194 and my goal is your starting weight practically, 130! You'll lose that weight in no time, but I know that I'm in for a long and difficult road ahead, at least a year and maybe longer if my past weight loss achievements are any indication (I certainly hope not but I'm preparing myself for it).

The chocolate brownie sounds delicious! I'm getting my list together for the food I want to buy next week so maybe I'l try that. I wish they had half boxes, I don't like having to eat the same packets for the week, but at $30 a box it seems that the desire for variety will be limited unless you really want to pay for it.
Anonymous
OP again, don't mean to spam the thread but didn't want to write a novel in the previous post.

I kind of messed up again and didn't eat my allotted protein packs. I only had a spinach salad for lunch because I planned on using one of the packs of Dorados crushed in my meatballs to replace bread crumbs, but the meatballs ended up being WAY too filling (I added 4 cups of spinach to the pound of ground turkey) and I didn't finish my dinner. It's not the end of the world, but I don't think I met my protein requirements and that makes the second time this week.

According to the FB groups, not eating the required amount of protein could result in a stall or reduced weight loss, so I definitely need to get it together.

I feel like my stomach has shrunk.
