Lochte Robbery Story: True or False

So basically, the swimmers destructed some property (maybe) and urinated in public (I'm sure that's a novelty in Rio.) As a result, they were robbed at gunpoint.

Yep. And arrested, warrants issued, passports confiscated. The security guard is remaining anonymous, of course.

that's not at all how I understand it to be.

1) they were drunk

2) they vandalized property - illegal around the globe btw even if it was in the slums of Rio

3) they were caught on surveillance and caught coming out of the gas station bathroom they vandalized - and were stopped, and guns were used to make sure that they complied.

They were stupid and they deserve what they've gotten so far.

The surveillance doesn't seem to show they actually vandalized anything.

And I'm sorry, but holding someone at gunpoint and demanding their money is robbery, EVEN IF they committed a crime. It might be a mitigating factor were it tried in court, but two rights don't make a wrong.

And yes, I get that that is "how things are done" in Brazil but that speaks to the corruption and lawlessness there, nothing more and nothing less.

Lochte is in the US, but the 3 remaining swimmers are still stuck in Brazil. Officials are considering charging them with vandalism and false testimony. (This is a classic shakedown, btw.) Who knows when they'll be able to leave Brazil?

Does anyone know if these swimmer filed a police report?
I heard the chief of police in Rio said that filing a false police report is a crime, but did they actually file one?
I haven’t heard that they actually did.

Because you know how much it cost to replace a commercial door and soap dispenser including labor--not to mention the fact that they would have done jail time in America for such a crime.

I'd say they got off easy.

I'm assuming you don't live in DC, PP. No one here is doing hard time for knocking down a door.

I don't think anyone, anywhere in this country is serving jail time for kicking down a door. Please...

Destruction of property? I'm sure there is someone somewhere in jail for this. A minority, no doubt.
I can't tell you how happy I am the athletes weren't minorities. Thank God! The things that would be said would've been far worse than the things said about the two Simones whose crimes were winning gold and being minority.

Who is saying bad things about the Simones?

Maybe some random idiots on Twitter or something? I don't know. I haven't heard a single bad thing about either of them.

I've actually used my feet numerous times in rest stops to open doors and honestly this is what it looked like.

The video then shows the guys being asked out of the video and taken to the side of the store all while their hands up. You see the swimmers grab wallets and hand over money then they are back in the ground all forced to sit with hands up.

Where is the video of them trashing a bathroom? I can see what appears to be a walkway that leads to a bathroom. No kicking by Lochte or the other guys (it looks like the last guy out makes a fast movement but he is not one of the swimmers). Plus a minute or so was removed from the video while they were back there. Another three minutes is removed before they get out of the taxi with their hands up.

Sorry if my post was not clear. I was trying to say Lochte was seen barely kicking the door open. That is all.
From this video it appears the only damage besides the allegation someone else urinated in the hallway.

I was trying to say It's NOT like he | they were breaking mirrors or they were spray painting etc. but a mere small kick. They did nothing major from the video.

From this video it looks like they were robbed, hands up, wallets out handing over money and forced to sit on the ground.

The video is on TMZ.

I doubt any of them went to the police to file a report of their own volition. Maybe the false testimony could pertain to whether the police can find any holes in the accounts of the two swimmers they have detained?

From Reddit- though this might be appreciated... more by at link

This is exactly what it sounds like. A little lie so his mum didn't know he was having some fine bunga-bunga with Rio's finest ladies of the evening, but, mums being mums...
RYAN: "Oh, yeah, it's just that I, um, lost my wallet..."
RYAN'S MOTHER: "WHAT? How could you lose your wallet!? I told you to pin it to your pants! You're always losing things! I told-"
fifteen minutes later
RYAN'S MOTHER (cont.): "-and that's why I told you to always wear those lovely cargo shorts I got you when you go out! This never would've happened if you didn't go-"
RYAN: "Mom-"
RYAN'S MOTHER: "-because you shouldn't be going there what with that Ezekiel virus going round and what if you get bitten and did you ever think about my grandchildren and what they virus can do to your sperm-"
RYAN: "Mom-!"
RYAN'S MOTHER: "-and that nice Phelps boy was going to win all the medals anyway-"
RYAN: "MOM! Look, I didn't want to alarm you, but I, uh, got robbed! Yeah, there was a, um, guy, and he, like, um, took my wallet-"
RYAN'S MOTHER: "OH MY GOD, HAVE YOU CALLED THE POLICE?"
RYAN: "No, look, it's not that big a deal, they only took my cash, I've still got all my important stuff and I cancelled my cards-"
RYAN'S MOTHER: "I'm calling the police!"
RYAN: "Wait, no!"
RYAN'S MOTHER: pulls out phone and dials

RYAN: "Mom, don't call the police, they aren't going to do anything. And it's not a big deal anyw-" RYAN'S MOTHER: "What do you mean they won't do anything. They're the police. It's their job to do something about it." RYAN: "It was the police mom." RYAN'S MOTHER: "What do you mean? You're not making any sense." RYAN: "I was robbed by the police." RYAN'S MOTHER: "What do you mean you were robbed by the police. The police don't rob people. They catch the robbers. What makes you think they were police?" RYAN: "Well mom, they were wearing police uniforms so-" RYAN'S MOTHER: "They must have stolen the uniforms. They weren't real police. I'm calling the real police."

I think Lochte and Feigen made a statement to the police after the media picked up the story and the USOC got involved. My guess is that the USOC and/or the police asked them to make a statement.

Okay, once again, I seriously doubt the lie was so his mom didn't find out he has had sex. Or drank. Or anything else.
