Lochte Robbery Story: True or False

The big question is whether Lochte will return to face the charges or let his teammate(s) take the fall for him. I think he left knowing they would be left to deal with his mess.

Only Lochte and Feigen were indicted. The two taken off the plane yesterday must have told the police what they wanted to hear. I feel bad for Feigen. I doubt Lochte will return.

No way should he return. It would be crazy of him to do so. Brazil already said that by pointing a gun at the swimmers, that there was a possibility of an impression of extortion, then said that there was no reason for the swimmers to stay in the country, then indicted Lochte and Feigen. The Brazilian authorities have shown that they are not trustworthy at all.

I totally agree. The Brazilian police have created a situation that should have been a nothing-burger. All to save face, I guess. But doing so has made them look like a bunch of bullies and totally corrupt.
Seems as if Rio is not a place to vacation.

They should be stripped of all medals and banned from future Olympics and all other world competition. Lying is not funny and "I boys will be boys" is bull.

Stripped of all medals?
This has nothing to do with their stellar performance in the pool.
Talk about inappropriate consequences......

Having two security guards hold guns on you demanding money seems like a robbery. Doesn't it? That's in the video, and admitted by the Rio police.

So what I'm taking from this story is that Brazilian officials are more concerned about someone lying about *where* a robbery occurred than they are about the fact that four tourists were held at gunpoint and shaken down for cash. I'll add that to the reasons I will never go to Brazil.

^^^ And the Brazilian authorities don't seem too concerned about the British or Australian swimmers who were robbed.

If only they spent as much time investigating all the other crimes in their city.

Agree. Damn. Brazilian law enforcement sounds completely absurd and/or corrupt.

Hope that Feigen guy isn't trapped in Rio. (Reminds me a bit of the Snowden debacle.)

This is idiotic. First, it would have been better for Lochte if all of them had gotten out of the country and no one could be detained/questioned. If he had notice this was coming and decided to leave the country early (not that there's any evidence of this), it would have been in his best interest to tell the other three so they could get out as well. Second, there is zero benefit to Lochte going back there. In a non-corrupt system, the consequences to the other three shouldn't be affected by Lochte's decision not to return, and in a corrupt system, there would be zero assurances that Lochte's return would help his teammates, even if officials claimed it would.

I swear, the Lochte haters on this thread seem to have a collective IQ of about 12.
