Vacation drama with mother

OMG, OP, please ignore all the assholes on this thread who are trying to defend your mother. Good for you for leaving. You are a full-grown adult and do not need to have your food habits monitored by your mother, especially not while you are breastfeeding a new baby. And the fact that your mom called you a hateful bitch for refusing to stand there while she abused you is proof that you made the right decision. I hope that you are able to find healing from your mom's abuse.

I may be a dissenting voice here, but I disagree with the stigma about fat "shaming". I do think people should tell fat people they ARE fat, at least if they are family or friends. (Don't tell a stranger because you don't know them or whether they have a medical issue.)

The mom could have been nicer, but what she said is good advice.

Yes, I understand that the OP is nursing, but 3 processed waffles isn't healthy for anyone. If she eats the SAD laden with sugar, then that's the reason she's always hungry. Sugar is addictive - it's actually quite ironic that the people who constantly experience hunger are usually (fat) people who eat way too much sugar.

OP should have eaten eggs instead, or even bacon.

Good lord. Get over yourself. Three little eggos hardly make a "training athlete" meal.

Seriously. A 5-year-old could eat that and be asking for seconds.

A 5 year old is growing; no adult should be eating 3 waffles in one sitting. No 5 year old either, but at least they are growing.

Hey OP's Mom! Hows the empty beach house?

I would buy another box of waffles and put your name on it. And write "adults only".

And to the waffle police: 3 Vans waffles have 240 calories and 45 grams of carbs. I admit the carbs are really high, but it's what was around and 240 calories for breakfast won't kill anyone.

45 grams is too much on its own, in one sitting, actually. And yes, you can die from high carb consumption, if you do that constantly. (diabetes anyone?)

That said, I doubt that's the only thing the OP is eating. How about the sugar in the syrup she would probably eat with it? or how about the sugar in coffee? Orange juice?

Sorry folks, most Americans are fat simply because they don't know how to regulate sugar consumption.

HOLY COW PEOPLE.

There was very little food in the house. OP Said she would prefer eggs but there were none. SHe is breastfeeding and hadn't eaten for 12 hours. Get off your HIGH horses and realize that it is NEVER appropriate to GRAB food out of someones hands and tell them they are too fat to eat it.
A gentle suggestion of - hey we have XYZ and that might be better for breakfast- but for F- Sake- the OP is a GROWN woman. The mom here was WAY over the line and some of you people are too much. This isn't about what is proper to eat or not to eat. This was about boundaries.

Even diabetics are allowed 45 grams are carbs. And 3 of these waffles are a whopping 4.5 grams of sugar. Do you people read anything before shooting off your mouths?

240 calories, 45 carbs, of which 4.5 TOTAL are sugar, won't kill anyone who would prefer eggs and eats them regularly.

And no one but a doctor should be telling someone they're overnight. Like you think they aren't aware?

Tell me, PP's. Since there was limited food, do you think an 80 calorie breakfast is appropriate for anyone, much less a nursing mother?

This isn't about waffles. It's about her mother's bad behavior.

OP -- you did the right thing by leaving.

My mother is toxic and has been for years. Some days she is more human than others. So no, this isn't a case of me overreacting, it was more of the last straw this week.

We never stormed out. We left calmly And, the fact she knew it was about the previous morning proves she knows she was hateful and expects me to just put up with it.

And again. 240 calories, people. My husband was running with the car keys or I'd have had other options, but we were nearing the end and groceries were scarce (I'd have preferred eggs myself).

Don't be so literal. You left the house and changed your plans because your mother called you fat (which you are).

Ignoring the fact that you missed most of the story and drew a completely wrong conclusion, what's wrong with being fat PP?

Does OP want to be fat? I doubt it.

You have no clue what you're talking about. Did you get confused? Do you think we're talking about Belgian waffles? If you are knowingly saying that three of the standard, small frozen waffles are too much for an adult to eat, I'll go ahead and assume you wandered over here from some pro-ana site.

Sorry this impacted your sister's vacation too.

No, I know exactly what I'm talking about, and no I'm not anorexic. My breakfast usually consists of omelets or whatever leftover I have at home - this IS loads healthier than a processed waffle.

It says a lot about Americans when you're 'diagnosed' pro-ana by a stranger online simply because you don't eat like a fatass.

NP here. I'm slim and always have been. I eat three waffles or pancakes on the regs in the morning. OP is right that BFing is hungry business, and I need carbs in the morning to make milk.

Maybe you're overly sensitive because you have to try very hard to stay slim? 240 calories for breakfast is nothing, not everyone gets fat if they eat carbs like you.
