I don't think they actually showed her in that episode - just referenced her existence.

I missed Derrick...good to see him back. I don’t miss George or Izzy. They need to find a way to bring Cristina back for a couple episodes. Meredith and DeLuca didn’t make sense to me..undecided about her and the Irish doctor. Teddy needs to go...boring and annoying. I like Amelia and Linc...I think Owen will end up alone. I don’t see how Avery stays on without April. I’m still sad about Alex and Jo.

I loved seeing Derek come back but I think it was the wrong move. Bringing him back for this cameo will only serve to bring up old wounds if he is not returning as a full cast member. The idea that the many fans who have been begging for his return will be satisfied if he tells Meredith it’s okay to move on with the Irish doctor is wishful thinking. I don’t think the show is ending because as long as it is doing well rating wise Ellen P will continue to accept the 20 mil per season. She doesn’t seem like the type to care about awful and repetitive story lines as long as she’s getting paid. I think the fact that they have to bring back these old characters to bump ratings is an indicator that the show needs to end. Hopefully they can convince Patrick Dempsey to come back for 10 episodes in season 18 and then call it a day.

Not sure, but it could be a plot twist like him being kidnapped by the government to protect him while doing his brain mapping work for the government. Just saying this is a show that had Izzy having an affair with a ghost so anything is possible lol

Yeah no. But his reappearance does make it clear M has not had great chemistry with any of the men since. I liked the Aussie better than Irish guy.

I'm sure the money is a huge draw, but also, EP is so associated with the role of Meredith and at her age, there's no guarantee she'd find something new. I'd love to see her in something different, but I wouldn't count on Hollywood to give her the opportunity.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I'd like to see in other roles. She's a good actress and she's more compelling as she's gotten older.

I like Ellen P as an actress too. She has said straight out that staying on the show was mainly to provide for her family. She never has to work again if she doesn’t want to. Katie Segal who is 67 years old is going to be the lead in the new show Rebels on ABC so anything is possible I guess if Ellen wants to move on from Grey’s

I think she has a rep as a hard-worker and very professional, so I think she's well situated to take a decade off and then re-appear as a well-loved testy mom or grandma or older woman who is the boss lady in a dramedy or comedy. Or she's just do producing.

Yes...Teddy needs to go. They really haven’t been able to find a good match for Meredith...I think she and the Irish guy would be great friends maybe try to hookup but I don’t get longevity.

Agreed.,Derek and Meredith gave us 10 years. They had their ups and downs but their chemistry was like lightning in a bottle. They should just give Patrick and Justin Chambers however much money they want and bring them back for a final season of no more than 12 episodes

No way to bring Derek back but I agree about Alex. I'm hoping after a chunk of time off he'll be amenable. At least this show runner didn't jump to immediately killing him off. If Shonda had issues with Patrick Dempsey, she should have exiled his character to DC after a divorce. Thus leaving the door open years down the road for a return. But that ship has sailed.

Anyway I like work- and family-focused Meredith so much better. She was so annoying when pining after a boy. Though the one guy she did have great chemistry with--Scott Speedman--what kind of weird red herring was that?

I agree that I like the Meredith character SO much better without a man/love interest. As others have said, her best chemistry was with Cristina! (Sandra Oh, however, clicked with Dr. Burke AND Owen!).

I never liked her with Derek (I liked him with the nurse, though) - I did not think they had chemistry, and there were a super annoying, drama filled couple. Nor any other guy. I don't think Ellen Pompeo has a "click" with any guy I've seen her act with - I assume IRL she and her hub click just fine
