It is REALLY strange how no one has been arrested or publicly charged for a murder.

I disagree that it's "strange." In fact it's completely typical when the suspect is going to be someone who has the means to fight back with the best defense attorneys and private investigators.

You can be sure that law enforcement is crossing their /T/s and dotting /I/s, and making sure their evidence-collection procedures are constitutionally air-tight.

Fine, I'm glad the police are doing their due diligence but when was the last time the suspects (regardless of means) weren't at least publicly identified as the assailants when that was clearly known on the day of the attack (thanks to surveillance and witnesses from the restaurant).

PP again ^^. Also, the suspect(s) are not a violent threat to the public at large. This was a one-off, right? So there's not that reason to rush an investigation

That is why I dislike this investigation. That's an assumption and you know it. There are black/hispanic attackers in this city with no prior history of felony assault and their mugshots are up within an hour and plastered across the 24/7 news like they shot 500 people in Las Vegas the night before.

If the fatal assailant was "clearly known" by anyone else in the restaurant other than his friends, that name would be all over social media by now. It's not. We don't "clearly know" his name.

You're also assuming there was a working security camera inside the bar that captured an image of the fighting party and that law enforcement has that but hasn't released it. Or that there was a perfectly placed gov't security camera on the street outside that captured images of the group and police have the image but aren't releasing it.

That's a big assumption, particularly for the bar camera.

Why is there a mugshot of these assailants of color, even though they have no prior history? Who took their mugshot?

Have you seen twitter lately?

Put a clear shot of his face up from the camera and they would have identified his elementary school and mother's work address in 48 hours.

Aside from that, if he was brought in for questioning or the detectives did so at his house THEY KNOW WHO HE IS.

As for the cameras - this is restaurant that regularly has congressional patrons in Navy Yard, not the middle of nowhere in an Applebees parking lot. There were cameras.

If the suspect is a person of means aren't they also a huge flight risk? You can't take away someone's passport without having charged them with a crime.

Also, the suspect(s) are not a violent threat to the public at large.

Why?

PP said no history of felony assault. Unfortunately, many young men of color have been arrested for petty non-violent stuff —often not even charged, but now they have a mug shot. A white friend spent a year and $25k trying to get her college age son’s mug shot off the web. He wasn’t charged, but his name is distinctive enough to bring it up every time. After she paid a company, it is now pushed down about 9 pages and most casual searchers won’t look that far.

Wow, MPD rule this as a justifiable homicide

Further, the names of the suspects were NEVER released. This is extremely rare

Who are these people? Someone from the Administration?

Someone that really didn't want their name in the papers, yeah. That's surprising. I wonder if the investigation records can be obtained through FOIA.

I’m wondering if the assailants are off duty cops, special forces, or intel community. Or perhaps someone from the diplomatic community.

That may explain the odd radio silence on any real details in this case. The entire thing is bizarre and reeks of a cover up.

It's reeked from this summer when they had the suspect on camera and the fight (inside and outside the restaurant).

They've known who it was from day one. I thought the murderer was a congressional member's son but yeah it could be special forces/intel. Though you'd think one of them would know not to sucker punch an old man into the ground.

(P.S. - If this was one of the black youths of the city, this would have been front page news along with mugshots)

Justifiable homicide = self-defense

If he attacked someone, they are allowed to defend themselves.

It was a group of people against one person. Since when is punching someone so hard they died justifiable homicide?

If he pulled a gun, yes. Just his fists? The assailant should have been at least CHARGED.

The police didn't even bother doing that.

A D.C. police spokesman said no charges will be filed in the case.

Since when has that ever happened?

I would assume that he picked a fight with someone with military training and got more than he bargained for.
