The very first thing we need in our society and nation is fair and transparent system.
Then we can talk about other stuff. |
Agree. I see it as the parents’ insecurity driving the insanity. Believe in your kids! I raised my kids to have the skills they will need to succeed in the world (and those are not skills you learn in Kumon or a cram class). One of my kids is a junior at a very good college and can already see how her soft skills are paying off in research and internships. The other is a HS senior and has chosen a school that is often denigrated on here because it was the right fit (turned down higher ranking schools). That child will be unstoppable because she has EQ off the charts. |
What does “fair and transparent” mean to you? Let me guess, test scores because you are the parent of a high scorer. |
Yes test score should be part of it. It's the most objective and fair measure. |
What’s do you think the “source of the problem” is? I’m very curious. |
I don't run that city. It's the mayor and governor's job. |
Kids are not to be punished for their parents’ actions. You’re free to move wherever you choose. |
| I think you mean you wish parents in this area could be that way. They are in most of the rest of the country. |
And what else? How would you design it? |
There are several other parts of the country where parents are like this. Of hand, I k pw of: NYC, San Francisco, LA and Chicago. Heck, I have a friend in Eugene, OR who reports the same issues. |
In other words, you have no idea what the issues are and don’t really care. You just don’t want “those kids” taking your kid’s spot. |
It's this area. But, you don't have to be in the rat race if you don't want to. |
You just named a bunch of wealthy cities. |
40% GPA(including rigor, etc. + 40% Tests + 20% extra stuff essay, awards(real ones), activity, etc. |
Yes. I think any wealthy city (I just happen to know folks in those) has the same type of driven parents. This is not solely a DMV issue, although we like to feel special. |
