Very mature - dont be a bully.

You all have been 'bullying' Tholen for a year. You can't take a day of legal celebrations in your opponent's favor?

We've been asking her to do her job; she didnt so we organized and brought her to court - and what happened yesterday was one Dem bailing out another Dem.

She did her job. You jist didn’t agree with her decisions. That doesn’t mean she should be recalled. A bunch of very entitled people tried this stunt and lost.

DP, but there are a lot of people in her district who don't agree with Tholen's decisions, whether it was her decisions about keeping schools closed, extending Brabrand's contract for a year, going along with TJ admissions changes that reduce the number of Dranesville students getting into TJHSST, or adjusting school boundaries to favor wealthy Langley.

I guess local Democratic activistscan keep calling everyone in Tholen's district who feels let down "entitled," but it doesn't position them very well for the next election.

You're not entitled if you disagree with a politician--that's democracy. You're acting entitled when you disagree with policies, make false accusations (as the court found), engineer a recall that is handily dismissed (and then cry foul about its dismissal). These heavy-handed efforts around a SB position that has been stressful to hold at this time just alienates the average voter--and will likely backfire against the group in the next election. I'm perfectly fine with there being a competitive election--I just really dislike this kind of stance that we will try to get rid of democratically elected officials whose policies we disagree with. And somehow that's Democratic activism??? Abiding by elections?

The judge denied tholen's motion to dismiss - in other words, there was enough to move forward. So it wasnt dismissed by the judge. Instead, it was turned over to Descano. He received $2,344 from tholen (vpap.org) and recused himself, turning this to James Hingeley, who, not surprisingly, determined that tholen did indeed do her job.

Descano and Jim are both happy recipients of funding from the Justice and Safety PAC (Descano received $601369 (vpap.org) and Jim $5,000. This is one of the PACs that sends money into local elections to tilt results in favor of far-left democrats.

That you think any local office is held by anyone “far-left” really puts your partisan agenda right up front.

Not PP, but it's not hard to get confused when local Democrats call themselves "progressive" all the time.

Eventually you realize people like Elaine Tholen are only "progressive" if a policy requires someone else to sacrifice. If it's about their own neighborhoods and schools they clutch their pearls harder than any Republican.

Yes, yes, we know- anyone to the left of Reagan is a communist

You missed the point entirely. Tholen and her ilk talk like AOC and act like Ted Cruz.

Ok but sorry to ruin your narrative. I am not a member of OpenFCPS and I did not sign the tholen petition. Im a moderate dem who is weary of the 'i won't prosecute criminals' agenda of Descano and am not happy that he paid tholen back by appointing Jim to push this issue aside. I never thought that tholen would be removed, but I am also no fan of Descano. Neither will get my vote next time around.

The Fairfax Democrats are at it again, suggesting that the members of the FCPS School Board deserve our full and unwavering support. If Omeish, Frisch, Tholen, and Cohen are what you consider great public servants, I don’t want any more of what you’re selling.

So how do you explain AOC? Sanders? Descano? Liz "Im an Indian, no Im not, yes I am" Warren? Andrew Yang? Soros? They are all taking us Dems way too far to the left. Why do I have to defend them in order to prove I am a Democrat?

Because your language and even mention of Soros makes you sound like you parroting Fox News.

Anonymous wrote:"In this case, a small group of people unhappy about Covid restrictions tried to use the law to substitute their opinion for a unanimous consensus of the Fairfax County School Board," said Tholen in response to the petition dismissal. "I was happy to hear the special prosecutor tell the judge that the case was about a policy disagreement, and that the recall process is not a vehicle to resolve such disputes with elected officials and governing bodies. That is why we have elections."

So you silly 5000 people who are just upset about covid - get out of elaine's way as she is putting this behind her and focusing on in-person learning.

Elections? In a Blue Virginia - any Democrat wins- we have a problem because there are NO elections for school board. FCDC runs the voting for FCDC and it is not an open caucus. Each Magisterial District gets 130 max for higher power stuff. I don't know how many people are able to enroll to vote on their internal elections. https://www.blueview.org/2019/05/17/school-board-endorsement-vote-leads-to-soul-searching-at-fcdc/

As Sean Perryman, FCDC recording secretary, observed recently, the vote total in Hunter Mill Democratic Committee’s May 8 poll, which endorsed Melanie Meren for school board, was 136. But during the last school board election, in 2015, more than 21,000 people voted.

“In a solidly Democratic district, that means you effectively have a fraction of 1% of the overall electorate deciding who makes decisions for parents and their children,” wrote Perryman. “The current endorsement process is exclusive, undemocratic, and we can do better.”

It’s not just the endorsement process; it’s also the fact that not many people want a position that only pays $35K but takes enough time to keep you from having a real job. You end up with a bunch of unqualified dilettantes who otherwise would be volunteering at a library or digging in a garden entrusted with policy decisions that actually matter. The School Board has completely outlived its usefulness.

Maybe, if they focused on the purpose of their job--and not their political agendas, there would be less work.

Renaming schools and social engineering seems to be their focus. The focus should be on instruction.

An example: Look at the purpose of their upcoming retreat. EQUITY

Do you know what would help EQUITY more than anything? Good solid instruction to all students. Their focus seems to be to close the achievement gap from the top down.

It’s outrageous that we have to pay for lunches for a bunch of hypocritical swills to blather on about “equity” when they’ve been pushing their own personal agendas for years.

How exactly would you hold Scott Brabrand accountable without a school board? Put him under the BOS? So far they don't seem that useful either...

I'd be inclined to shrink the Board in half, pay them more, and revisit their rules and bylaws so their responsibilities are clearly and narrowly defined.

Part of the reason people think so poorly of Brabrand is that he spends half his time seeking to no avail to cater to the whims of a bunch of babbling ninnies on the School Board who don't have a clue how to engage in effective oversight of a $3B business. They all come out looking worse.

Honestly, stop looking away. Soros dumped hundreds of thousands into the pockets of Virginia dem candidates.

I dont watch Fox News - they are just as bad as CNN, MSNBC, and the rest. it is all biased.

Do me a favor - search on "Justice and Public Safety PAC" and you'll see that Soros dumps millions a year into it, according to its own website. Then search on "descano campaign contributions" and see how much the Justice and Public Safety PAC gave Descano, according to Descano himself. Then search on "Justice and Public Safety PAC" and "Virginia" and see how Soros, through this PAC, is gaining control of our party here in Virginia. Then look nation-wide. None of this is from Fox news. All of this is troubling as Soros is pushing the Dem party so far to the left. It is happening all around you. I can see it - why cant other Dems? So frustrating.....
