Places to Sign Recall Petitions - Tholen/Omeish/Cohen

Anonymous
Pleanty of Dranesville locations to sign the Tholen/Omeish recall petitions this week:

McLean Shopping Center (near Santini's) - 6/21 (11-3)

Great Falls Village (Walker Road) 6/23 (11-3)

Chesterbrook Safeway 6/23 (3-5)

McLean Shopping Center (near Santini's) - 6/23 (5-6:30)

Herndon Farmer's Market - 6/24 (9:30 - noon)

Great Falls Village (Walker Road) 6/26 (10-2)

Please refrain from attacks on AO's views on global politics on this thread (start a different thread on the Politics forum if you must). That only gets entire threads on a schools forum deleted.

Will update with signing events for Cohen later but focus is on Dranesville right now as getting very close to enough signatures to trigger Tholen recall.

How close are they on the Cohen petition?
Anonymous
Not as close. Don't know the exact number.

But getting very close on Tholen (and the signatures will comply with the state law requirements, which undid the Sandy Evans petition in Mason several years ago).

More volunteers in Dranesville and the retail areas in Springfield are more spread out over the district.

Also the retail areas that are technically in Cohen's district get a lot of shoppers from the neighboring districts just due to the way that everything there is laid out. Plus there are lots of military families in Springfield District who can't sign.

Why recall these three?

Tholen & Cohen are the two who take the least number of signatures of the SB members at all.
Omeish is the least of the at-large and the recall effort kept getting people outside of Springfield and Dranesville asking to sign something.

While motivations for actually signing vary, the petitions themselves are about not reopening school in a timely, evidence based fashion.

Omeish's unwillingness to just make a decision, which is her JOB.

The children should never have been punished for the fact that an unexpected pandemic complicated her path to higher political office.

Is there no way we can sign these online? It must be in person?

I'm not a Cohen constituent. As such, my only option is Omeish, correct?

Tholen: passivity when it came to reopening schools; complicity when it came to admissions changes that will keep Asian kids from Dranesville out of TJ; duplicity when it came to Langley/McLean boundary change.

She needs to be replaced.

The group behind the petitions wants to recall everyone but McLaughlin. They started with the lowest hanging fruit.

Honestly they’re all kind of bad. But I’m hoping if the recalls succeed, that the other members will start to actually do their jobs and advocate for education vs. dithering around in national politics and being too paralyzed to actually advocate and make decisions.

Correct. I could only sign for Omeish too. They need more signatures to recall an at-large member so it’s worth the trip to sign their petition.

The Cohen/Omeish petitions will be:

6/23 5:30-7:30 at Burke Town Plaza, 9526 Old Keene Mill Rd.

6/24 11-3 Old Keene Mill shopping center, 8424 Old Keene Mill Rd.

6/26 10-2 Shoppes of Lorton Valley, 8941 Ox Rd.
