How many undocumented students are enrolled in MCPS?

I thought I came across a number that est. 15,000 but can't recall for sure. There are 159,242 total students in MCPS.

I think its hard to know, but from ORR alone, here are the stats of unaccompanied minors that were released to sponsors by state and by county:

I am a former MCPS high school registrar.

All students who are unable to have transcripts sent from a US school are required to enroll through the MCPS International Office.
Many -- probably most -- students who enroll through the MCPS International Office do not bring birth their birth certificates with them. It's very unusual for a student from El Salvador or Guatemala to bring a birth certificate. However, it is very common for an ICE arrest warrant to be included in their enrollment packet. The MCPS International Office accepts the arrest warrants as identification.

How does the school get proof of age then?

To register a foreign born chlid to attend mcps, the international office needs parents to bring their passport, valid visa, employent letter, prior school enrollment information, and immunization record. It is a painful process because the new comers dont have a car and dont have a clue about the school system in the country they just arrived. I helped one of the family regitered their 7 years old daughter and still remember that it took three trip to bring all the document mcps reqiured. I have been wondering how an illegal immigrant child could register in mcps.

Here are the stats for the unaccompanied children that have been released to MOCO by the Office of Refugee Resettlement. These numbers are those that came through ORR only.

556 unaccompanied children have been released between October 1, 2016 through January 31, 2017.
1,079 were released to MOCO the rest of 2016
534 in 2015
1,117 in 2014

age breakdown:
up to 12 yrs: 18%
13-14 yrs: 17%
15-16 yrs: 37%
17 yrs: 31%

gender breakdown:
67% males
33% females

country breakdown:
Guatemala- 40%
El Salvador- 34%
Honduras- 21%
Mexico- 3%
Other- 2%

Interesting. 17 years old is the smallext year span demographic but comprises close to the largest population. Could adults know or be told to declare themselves 17??
