How many undocumented students are enrolled in MCPS?

My kids go to a Title 1 school in MoCo. I'm a PP who is concerned about what is going on in MCPS and how much money gets spent on kids who are here ILLEGALLY.

Can you please point out what posts you find offensive exactly?

First off, my kids are not white. But, FTR, I don't think they're seeking the drugs to white teenagers. That's other white kids who are doing that. But they are selling drugs to other Latino/AA kids who are in schools with them.

Are your kids in ES? Where will they go to MS? Just wait it out and see if you feel as 'welcoming' as your kids go through the school system. Even my sister's Latina housekeeper doesn't want to send her two daughters to the MS she is zoned for because she knows about what goes on there. This is not about parents being racist, no matter how much you try to make people think that.

It's about how the school system has limited resources and it appears that some of these resources are not being spent wisely.

The posts I found offensive were the ones saying that teenagers were coming here unaccompanied from Central America in order to lie about their ages and and sneak into our high schools for the opportunity to eat free meals in school and sell drugs. That is loony conspiracy theory stuff. If it's relevant to you my child is in a middle school that's about half Hispanic.

Wait? Why do you think they come here then exactly? Instead of stopping in Mexico or going to Peru or Columbia?

The US makes it very easy for ILLEGAL immigrants to come here and we support them if they are underage.

The posts were in response to questions as to WHY some people might lie about being 17 instead of admitting their correct age. Do you think that never happens? Any doubt the Rockville HS rapists were older than 18?

How about this. Your loose regard for immigration laws begets rape.

If you're allowed to make big generalized statements, then so am I.

Because, guess what? Your loose regard for immigration laws and welcoming attitude towards ILLEGAL immigrants (from all over, not just Central America - for some reason, YOU are choosing to focus on Central amwricans), led to a 14 year old girl being raped in a high school bathroom. Shame on you.

You can advocate to change the laws that make immigraion difficult, but just flaunting the laws does not appear to be working.

This is where we differ. I don't think that the lax enforcement of immigration laws "led" to this rape any more than I think Brock Turner's swimming career "led" to him raping a girl. They are illegal immigrants and they are accused of rape but these things are not equal.

You're absolutely right that we differ in that thought. I believe that if our laws were enforced, these two particular men would not have had the opportunity to rape a 14 year old girl at school.

And if that is how you feel, why do we even have immigration laws at all?

Even the National Border Patrol Council said that if they had done their job, the rapists wouldn't have been here to commit the crime: http://www.fox5dc.com/news/243450519-story

If they're not lying about who they are and how old they are, why don't they have any documentation to prove their identity? They "lost" everything on the way...right. And I have a bridge to sell you.

Then why are you allowed to call parents racist for asking questions about what happened?

There are som parents in MCPS who may be racist. There are also many parents in MCPS (of ALL races - White,AA,Latino,Asian) who are concerned that we are allowing ILLEGAL immigrants into our schools, not having any idea about their age or criminal status.

Being racist is one thing. Being concerned about illegal immigration is another. These things are NOT equal. Repeat that to yourself before you call for pitchforks and white robes.

You are saying they raped someone BECAUSE they are illegal immigrants, are you not? That is where we differ. I don't think one's legal status has anything to do with tendency toward crime.

"If there were no illegal immigration" is an interesting hypothetical. Many things would be true: our population would be aging, it would be more expensive to hire nannies and buy vegetables, many of our schools would be whiter, and many more teenagers would be dead in El Salvador. We have absolutely no data to support whether there would be more or less rape. Dwelling on this single anecdote has nothing to do with reality.

DP here.
My view - they didn’t rape someone because they were illegal immigrants. This young girl will need to suffer with this for the rest of her life BECAUSE they are illegal immigrants, because had they not been here, the crime would not have happened.

So, in a nutshell.... they didn’t rape her because they were illegal immigrants. But, because they were illegal immigrants, she was raped in what should have been a safe place.

I don’t agree with your thoughts. Because if there were no illegal immigrants, we would likely have more LEGAL immigrants.

They raped because they believe (based on their past experience in the United States) that our laws can be easily ignored, and ZERO consequences. Imagine that.

What entitlements do you have as a "17" year old registered in high school at MCPS? Other PPs mentioned insurance & other benefits. How does this work?

[Trying to get a handle of what the attraction is of the METS program or high school in general if you are "17" years old and recently arrived as an unaccompanied minor from Central America. Just doesn't ring true to me that these kids are really interested in a high school education after not having been in school in your home country for at least 2 years. I would have thought they are coming either to work construction/menial labor or as part of a criminal enterprise (ie members of a gang/dealing drugs). In either case, attending high school would crimp your ability to earn $ from either of these activities if you are spending a significant part of every day in school.]

I don't know if this is the case in MoCo, but in CA, there are places that provide free boarding to the unaccompanied immigrants so long as you are a student enrolled in school. So that would be a HUGE benefit.
