We have the highest gun per capita rate in the western world - most of the world, for that matter. If guns truly made us safer as the pro-gun advocates say, we should be the safest place in the world.

Instead we’re one of the most dangerous.

Guns are only 1/2 the issue. The people shooting at people are the issue. Guns are just the tool. If they didn't use a gun, they'd use something else.

Parents should be held equally accountable as the shooters.

We need gun control. America, the most powerful nation on earth, is not as civilized as the other first world nations, who without exception, all regulate firearms extremely tightly.

America cannot regulate anything! Drugs pouring into our country, illegal immigration, fraud, etc. What would you expect???

You can’t get to that many killings that fast using any other tool.

My sentiments exactly. If the killing of the 6-year olds didn’t change things, nothing will.

This.

This is the event that made me lose complete respect/trust/confidence in our country. Nothing this country does or doesn’t do surprises me now. Nothing.

I was the one that posted the link to "Our Moloch" on page 1. The first paragraph:

"Few crimes are more harshly forbidden in the Old Testament than sacrifice to the god Moloch (for which see Leviticus 18.21, 20.1-5). The sacrifice referred to was of living children consumed in the fires of offering to Moloch. Ever since then, worship of Moloch has been the sign of a deeply degraded culture. Ancient Romans justified the destruction of Carthage by noting that children were sacrificed to Moloch there. Milton represented Moloch as the first pagan god who joined Satan’s war on humankind..."

This country is in decline. The mass proliferation and delusion about guns is simply one sign. I used to think the kids that survived Columbine, VA Tech, Sandy Hook, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas might have their voices heard and be able to lead. That simply has not happened. Instead, members of Congress mock and harass them.

Our electoral structure is already minority rule and that will only grow over time. It's amusing that Republicans shriek about Venezuela and SoCIalIsM when they are using extreme gerrymandering, with the approval of Republican-elected or appointed courts to guarantee a majority of Republican elected officials even in states that vote Democratic overall. Look for Republicans to find ways to disqualify candidates from the ballot when opposition to their tactics inevitably arises.

Anyway, that's a big old tangent, but suffice it to say it's unlikely there will be any meaningful gun control at any level of government. And the Supreme Court is set to strike down gun control in New York any day now.

I would like to immigrate and I've encouraged my kids to look at university abroad.

Not that long ago these shootings were shocking and there would be a national uproar. Have there been so many that it just doesn’t feel like that anymore? Seems like More of a regional story now due to fatigue. The shock wears off, maybe not normal but I think the gun groups succeeded in making these just seem like they are a regular thing.

Let us be reminded once again that these deaths were 100% preventable.

Those teenagers... I can’t begin to imagine the families’ agony.

So let’s say it again: firearm deaths are 100% preventable.

The gun groups and the parents who just brushed it off 'It can never happen here'. Almost every parent on television after their kid is shot in AP Calculus says that. 'I never believed it would happen in Michigan. OMG this happened in ritzy Florida. We're a small upscale town in Connecticut - how could this happen?'

Really hit public consciousness with Columbine but each successive generation of disassociated kids is going into daddy's safe and taking it out on everyone else.

The data in the chart shows otherwise. Guns are the issue. Can you see that really tall bar? Every other advanced (and not advanced) nation does not have this problem.

Go after the irresponsible father. Hard.

The alleged shooter, identified only as a 15-year-old Oxford sophomore, is in custody and refusing to speak to authorities, according to Bouchard. Five minutes after the violence began, the suspect surrendered himself to a school deputy, and a semi-automatic handgun, a Sig Sauer 9 mm, was recovered along with two 15-round magazines, the sheriff said. The teenager’s father had purchased the gun just four days prior. The alleged gunman’s name has not been released because he is a minor and has not been charged as an adult.

Which is why, in the end, it will have to be done by force. Brutal, crushing, unforgiving, violent, bloody, lethal FORCE. We are going to have to kill every last gun nutter out there if we are to survive.

Extremely racist. All races have gun violence.
