This is chilling! Our kids are so hyperaware that they knew that the shooter called out "Bro" that it was a trap. OMG!! I hate this country. I hate people who love guns. I hate that my kids are unsafe here. Sick. Worse than a war torn third world country. |

A lot of these victims parents have another child - younger, older. I think the saddest one I remember is the MSD parents wondering how they'll tell their other kids. What they'll do the next morning. If they told their dead child if they loved them as they walked out the door. |

Gun reform isn't possible in the US because of our culture. It's one of "freedom" and independence - ie - won't be told what to do. Whatever the government says, there will be someone or group to oppose it. It's cultural - everyone has a say. When you look at any other country whether it be democratic, authoritarian, communist, there just isn't all this pushback. You tell people what to do and it's done. Here in the US, everyone has an opinion so no, it doesn't matter what you want to implement, someone is going to suggest it's not fair and therefore no resolution on this issue.
With the 2nd Amendment covering arms as it is, regardless of whether it's realistic, reasonable or pertinent application for it in 2021/2022, guns will continue to be sold and owned easily in the US. I say again - it's our culture to own a gun. I personally do not feel it's a right to do so because I haven't the training or knowledge of how to operate one but I'm in the very very minority of folks who feel differently I'm sure. They say mental health is where it's at - well there's too many people who will get by the system if we use mental health as a criteria. And really, too many people who can just snap suddenly without warning and with easy access to guns, violence will continue. At minimum, you would need to create a whole separate government oversight process and structure whereby security/background checks/mental health are considered. Just. Not. Gonna. Happen. Training is the only option left to allow for guns I think - background checks won't be enough - it's training that should allow you to own if you feel compelled to have a gun in your possession. Not sure how you enforce that. |
