Lost 6 lbs in 10 days - overweight - here is what I did.

In my 20s I had lost 25 lbs in 3 months. I used to maintain weight by going through low calorie days. It actually feels better than fasting because you are not fooling around your body’s metabolism.

How is fasting 'fooling around body's metabolism'? If anything, it is great for your metabolism, and has lots of other benefits. Moreover, it has been around, like, forever and is well researched.

Although I'll admit I was sceptical like you until recently. But I educated myself, tried it and loved it. Short fasts (30-40 hours), not hungry at all, amazing results, and lots of energy.

You sound like a woman, op. That doesn’t sound like a healthy goal weight for a man, more like a waif.

You are a man, so exercise will work to increase weight loss better than for women.
I don't know what that inulin is somebody wrote about? Can that pp post where to get it? I followed the link, but can't quite understand what it does, is it a diuretic? If you can post some of your experience with it, I'd appreciate it.

Anonymous wrote:Good job, OP. I've lost 27 lbs in about 6 months, but I started out a healthy (not overweight) weight. I just wanted to be super skinny and toned.

My advice- increase your workouts. 1 mile is a great start but 3-4 miles 3-4 times a week and weightlifting on off days will really give you some great definition.

Personally, I think you're losing out by cutting coffee. Coffee is very healthy and also suppresses appetite.

PP can you please provide details on your regimen? 27 pounds in 6 months, congrats!

Sure, I aim for 1000-1400 calories per day while losing weight (I do periods of maintenance, for example, through the holidays).

Work out at least every other day very aggressively. For example, run 5-7 miles, kickboxing, orangetheory once a week, and weightlifting at least once a week.

Sleep at least 8 hours.

Key to my diet is eating 600 calories or less during the morning and workday.

This is disordered. Eating 1000 cal a day while running 5 to 7 miles is not healthy by any stretch.

I agree 1000 to 1400 calories is a diet for skinny models. No idea what this person is trying to do.

Read the bolded.

This person is not healthy & I would not follow his/her advice unless you want to look sick (& quite possibly end up in the ER).

I'm the person that posted that regimen. You all are overreacting. I don't restrict all the time. I restrict for a period of 2-4 weeks and then am normal again. As for what I'm trying to do, I am trying to be a size 2 with 17% body fat. It's working.

New poster here...you are going to get pilored PP ... the comments above make me think about 2 other threads 1/ how gen X and millennial see a perfect body. And how people now see skinny as unhealthy and stronger as the new ideal; 2/ the comments about french and Japanese women. And the regular misunderstanding I see about the amount thin french or Japanese women eat (yeah, closer to 1000 cal each time they see themselves going above a size 2 _ I am the french woman who keeps trying to tell dcum that cigarettes is not the key reason why french women are skinnier, it is that they really onteat much)

Anyway, was just chiming in to say that I hear you PP, if you want to be a size 0-2 you need to have regular 1000-1400 calories days... no mistery..andthats not necessarily a good idea for certain body types

But to be treanpsarent, adding to my previous post : that s exactly what I am doing.. going through regular1200-1400 cal a day for 1-2 weeks whenever I go above my goal weight of 116.. and it works.

Please stop.

Op here, I counted my calories. In fact I am at 1600 on some days during this diet. So 1400 calorie person has a point. As soon as you go over your target number, you want to get back on track. The more I think the more I find it credible to have such low calorie days. I am going to try 16 hour fasts for the next 10 days and count calories. And I promise I will indulge into my cravings after I lose 4lb more.

On a side note, my BP is about 8 points lower at 125 to 130 and magically even pulse rates are trending lower. So definitely a Big Thank You to all of you. You have been great.

Yes, 1600 calories for a man at your weight is easily the equivalent of 1000-1200 cal of a size 4 woman. Good luck with the rest of your diet!! Don’t indulge too much on your cravings and report back

Wait, what? Why do you promise that? Why would you want to negate all the good work and the results (however small)? You'll gain it back with such attitude. I am confused.

Although depends on what your cravings are. For me, when I am on strict keto, I sometimes kind of miss fruit. So I might have one later.

It's the men's attitude. We love to celebrate too fast too much! But, now that you remind me how hard I had to work, I am re-evaluating your point and thank you. You are great. On a side note, I just tried a 15 hour fast and lost another lb. So, I am down to 173 from 180 now.

Additional lessons learned for those who are overweight like me:
1. Documenting daily food intake and weighing yourself make major difference.
2. Never consider advice such as 'you need to see a therapist'. You really need to develop self awareness.
3. I am drinking 5 cups of water a day but I strongly feel that 8 cups of water is a minimum requirement for anybody trying to lose weight.
4. I have been walking or running a mile a day for last 8 days.
5. Consistency is key.
6. Consider not eating from 8pm to 8am.
7. Mint is the super food you want to consider along with Green Tea.

I am seriously evaluating fasting for 12 to 15 hours a day for the next five days.

Not sure where the therapist thing came up, but if people are saying that to you, you should consider it.

Fasting for 16 hours per day is perfect. I did that for about a month. It had modest results in weight loss, but was ideal for killing off hunger and appetite. I'm the 1200-1400 calorie per day person. Once I stopped with fasting and switched to low calorie, it was easy and the weight came off very rapidly.

I will also add.... I don't believe in super foods. There's really no science behind it. If you think green tea helps suppress your appetite or that eating mint gives you more fiber, knock yourself out. But it's not super food, it's just something that works for you.

This sounds like a good approach. I've found that fasting really helps to keep my weight loss going. For best results, I follow a fast with a day of eating very Keto friendly (low/no carb foods). Ex: eggs and bacon for lunch, sausage and sauerkraut for dinner. The next day, I'll incorporate more veggies (spinach, broccoli, brussels sprouts) into my meals.

Same here. Keto+fasting is a beautiful combination However, your second day menu is no less keto-friendly than your first day after fasting. I am sure you know it but a lot of folks still think that keto means eating only cheese, meat and eggs

I am at 171.4 now. I have lost 8 lb in a month. Feels great. I am at 1600 calorie diet during most of the days. No processed food and 16:8 fasts work wonderfully well. Looking forward to losing one pound at a time and 21 more to go.

The second day is still very Keto friendly but it does involve more carbs which is not a bad thing at all. Our bodies need the nutrients in veggies.

I just find that if I do pretty much a no carb 1st day following a fast that my results are even better than if I had a veggie omelet and chicken brussels sprouts meal on the first day.
