Quickly Losing 15-20 Pounds

I am so frustrated. I only realized because none of my clothes fit. It’s largely contained to my gut but I wouldn’t mind toning up all over.

Anyone know how to do this fairly quickly, like 4-6 weeks? Obviously starving myself and exercising two hours a day is not the answer but I would like to be able to wear my clothes again.

No, actually this is the answer, if you’re trying to lose 20 lbs in 4-6 week. Though I don’t recommend it.

3-5 of those pounds could be water weight and/or imflammation from heavy drinking. Eat clean: high protein, vegs, low or no bad carbs, tons of water and no sugar. Keep this up for 2 months and you'll make a huge dent in those 20 pounds.

No way. In the same boat and eating 1100 calories a day, working out everyday and 10k steps a day and have not lost weight in 3 months. I’m an inch taller and 140 lbs. Trying to get to 130. Original weight was 122.

What would be an example of high protein vegan diet?

Good lord, I'm shocked how many of you are suggesting total BS.

High protein vegan? Again, if she doesn't plan to be vegan for the rest of her life it's BS. Sure some weight will fall off but she will gain it all back.

How about eating a healthy Mediterranean diet, while restricting your calories so you achieve a sustainable deficit?

Guaranteed she will lose weight. In a healthy way.

People like the PP are so weird. No matter the diet, if you go back to your previous eating habits you will regain the weight. I mean.. yes? Why is a “healthy Mediterranean diet” more sustainable than keto? Id argue the opposite.

That's because you are really ignorant about the Mediterranean diet. Maybe read about it and educate yourself before making dumb comments.

People live very healthy lives on a Mediterranean diet (hence the name) and keto used to be prescribed for a very specific disease until it caught on for whatever stupid reason. The point is to change your eating habits for the better long term. I never said she wouldn't lose the weight if she goes Keto but she will gain it all back when she starts eating carbs. Which BTW we absolutely need in our diet if we are to be healthy.

The reason people are giving you crap is because the 4-6 week deadline is stupid. Give yourself 20 weeks to lose it, and it might only take 10. But looking for a quick fix isn't any healthier than the behavior that caused you to gain the weight in the first place. I lost 20 lbs in 20 weeks, twice, by upping my exercise and really watching what I ate. 1-2 lbs/wk is pretty normal if you don't have much to lose.

+incredibly stupid. Remember your brain and stomach will be secreting ghrelin and unhappy with severe calorie restriction; will likely binge at some point and feel awful. Be kind to yourself and buy some cheap black pants in your size. Commence with sustainable changes and exercise. Practice a little meditation, mindfulness and gratitude. It is okay to be upset with weight gain, but gain a little perspective- as a woman you will be doing this for a while and as you age no single thing like quitting wine will yield miracle results in 4-6 weeks.

We don’t need carbs to be healthy.

Yes, but this exchange is prima facie evidence that no carbs makes your cranky and combative.

That may be true, but if you have so little control over your eating habits you have to eliminate an entire food group you’ll end up pretty cranky. No carbs at all particularly, as we seeing here.

Don't people lose 20 lbs per month on those wilderness shows?

Actually we do. They serve an important purpose.

We do in fact need carbs.

My husband farts in his sleep and loses 25 lbs by dawn. It’s just easier for dudes.

I lost 20 lbs in 6 weeks by working out hard 90-120 minutes every single day (running + lifting), quit all alcohol and processed carbs, and ate lots of lean protein, veggies and drank a ridiculous amount of water. I was heavier than you but not obese.

You can’t lose it quickly. It took you at least 6 months to put it on and it’ll probably take that long to get it off.

Get your steps up. 10k a day to start. Move more. Park in the back of the parking lot when you shop so you have to walk further. Go for a 20 minute walk after dinner. Take the stairs. Just move more generally.

Obviously, cut out drinking. Then figure out your actual calorie needs and eat that. 50% of your plate should be veggies, a wide variety. 25% of the plate should be protein and 25% complex carbs with a little healthy fat.

Working out in the gym will be far secondary to doing these two things consistently. But you’re not losing 20 lbs of fat in 4 weeks. It will take time.

OP, please don't believe this nonsense. OF COURSE, exercise is important and not optional.

How is it nonsense? Weight loss is mostly diet. If all you care about is weight loss, exercise is optional.

Even if all you care about is losing weight and not being actually healthy, you will lose a lot faster the more calories you burn. It’s common sense.

Sure, but the type of exercise somebody needing to lose 20 pounds is usually capable of even doing is a rounding error compared to rebalancing their energy intake. OP isn’t going to run for an hour at 7/mile or get on a bike for three hours averaging 200 watts.

What exercise can do is help remold body composition and encourage healthy eating habits so you don’t feel like trash and can meet your exercise goals.
