Imagine Upstate NY around Syracuse where they expect the cold and thrive in it.

Toughness is a fundamental part of lacrosse. This isn't tennis.

Oh is this why the lax players at our all boys school make fun of other sports and make fun of other boys? Is this the kind of attitude you’re teaching your children? It’s no surprise that the boys that seem to be the meanest and get into the most trouble all play lax. 12 and 13-year-old boys should not be speaking the way I am hearing boys speak to each other and about each other and others.

C’mon lady stop sheltering your son. Have you thought maybe it’s how all boys speak and give each other a hard time and your overbearing and helicopter parenting style is making your son soft like cotton.

This board explains so much.

Yes, it does. It explains why so many kids in our private schools are whiny, entitled, brats, They have parents who think they shouldnt be out in the cold nd indulg them like fragile flowers. Of course, those same parents take those same kids on expensive ski vacations where they (gasp) skiing outdoors in much colder weather.

Sour grapes much? I know nothing about Lacrosse, but Healy is a great history teacher. Now get back under your bridge.

Both my kids had Healy in the classroom at the Potomac School. One of our kids also happened to play lacrosse and to this day still talks about Coach Healy.

Potomac was very sad to see Ian leave the school but it makes sense when you understand his close relationship with Bordley.

I expect him to do great things as the leader of the Bears lacrosse program.

Coach Healy is a great person and a good role model for the boys...

Ps-Syracuse plays indoors.

How about West Genesee High School? Where do they practice?

Besides, you'll be dropping the sport soon. Obviously not tough enough.

Whiner!!

West Genesee program has fallen off big time.

This was about the whining of some MVA kids about the intolerable cold weather.

Substitute any Central NY team you want if you don't like West Genny.

Where do they practice?

In Onondaga County -all- teams (lacrosse, track & field, baseball) start Spring practice outdoors in late February and there is snow on the ground...

When you grow up in Syracuse, you are accustomed to cold weather...(DH didn't love it but he never knew any other kind of winter).

What is box lacrosse like comoared to regular lacrosse? Do local middle schools & high schools field teams and play against each other?
Anonymous
Box is played indoors in a much smaller space. There are no long poles. The goals are much smaller. In this way it is much more about stick work and angles and is a good way for offensive players to practice. (Though our defender loved being able to score more!). While lots of schools put together teams during the off- season, i don’t know if any schools actually have box lacrosse as a sport. The ones i know don’t.

Also, box lacrosse came out of Canada. Canadians with a box lacrosse background (in addition to outdoor experience) have made a real splash at the highest levels of college lacrosse, so it has caught on more and more at the lower levels. Agree with the prior poster that it's done as an out-of-season developmental thing, not as an interscholastic school-sponsored league sport.
