Private School Lacrosse Thread

Jeff has given you/we lax crazy parents a reprieve, and is allowing this single outlet for our discussions, musings, and information sharing relating to your/our favorite obsessions - private schools and lacrosse. Please keep on topic and respectful. I know that's a lot to ask given this crowd...

I'll start. Has SJC named an interim HC after the sudden departure of the recently hired HC?

They have yet to name a head coach.

What is the deal with DC Express and what private school do they feed?

Coaches from Bullis and Prep also coach Express. So if things work out, those are the feeds.

Anyone have an opinion as to which "recruiting camps" are good for HS lacrosse players looking to play at selective Div III schools (e.g. Williams, Amherst, etc.)? I already know about prospect camps that these schools offer.

BTW, this is sort of useful...

I thought colleges recruit through the clubs and not so much high schools. I also thought the prospect camps were for high school recruiting and not college recruiting but I am fairly new to lacrosse world and could be mistaken. I welcome feedback from more experienced parents.

The club owners want you to think that colleges recruit solely through the clubs... That once was true. But times are changing. Being a member of a good club team is still important for both exposure and resume value. But playing for many of the private school programs (think IAC/WCAC/MIAA) carries with it that same resume and door-opening function.

That is good to know. Thanks.

Did SJC fire Trig? When? What reason did the give out to parents? Wow was that a short stint!
Anonymous
Yes, fired. I heard it was because of his treatment of players.

Is VLC the only elite club team in the DMV that feeds primarily to the public schools?

The best players do both. That is, they play for a top-notch high school in the spring and club the rest of the year.

I know more about the MD side of the Crab house, but just looking at the VLC Blue Crab Twitter feed I see lots of highlight tapes from Landon, St Albans and SSSA.

From our experience, high school play (in the WCAC) was more valuable then club play. In fact, more than one college coach was surprised our DS was still playing club. We were told by coaches that a number of guys they were looking at were not playing summer club, but using that time to go to prospect days and camps instead.

Look at Amherst's Good to Great - http://goodtogreatlacrosse.com/page.asp?content_id=36575

Other good ones for NESCAC's and SLAC's - http://www.newenglandtop150lacrossecamp.com and http://www.elite180lax.com

Depends on the high school. The relationships and histories between many college coaches and the traditional lacrosse power teams is very strong based on mutual dependence and long-term reservoirs of trust.
