| To the pp about practices, when do practices for spring start? My child is in middle school, but it looks like high schoolers are still playing winter sports. |
Layer - lots of boys wear compression leggings that reach the ankles, shorts over that and sweatpants. They get hot pretty quickly and take off the sweats. DS wears a pair of surgical gloves on his hands because they fit into his gloves and keep his fingers warmer. Layer a t-shirt or two and a sweatshirt. He wears regular socks but will switch to wool if it's super cold or he'll be outside for hours. They can wear a skin cap under helmet and on hair if head is cold. Generally they warm up pretty quickly. |
| Anyone take their kid to the Lacrosse Masters clinics in Florida? Either the boys in Vero or girls in Boca? If yes, how were they? |
| I know Sidwell isn't a lacrosse school, but does anyone know the new lacrosse coach Chris Cummings? any word on him? |
Imagine Upstate NY around Syracuse where they expect the cold and thrive in it. Toughness is a fundamental part of lacrosse. This isn't tennis. |
Heh I still remember my kid's first game. It was FREEZING. He had his ski parka on under his pads and his ski balaclava under his helmet. The players who were on the sideline were all huddled whimpering under a blanket. |
Oh is this why the lax players at our all boys school make fun of other sports and make fun of other boys? Is this the kind of attitude you’re teaching your children? It’s no surprise that the boys that seem to be the meanest and get into the most trouble all play lax. 12 and 13-year-old boys should not be speaking the way I am hearing boys speak to each other and about each other and others. |

Not complaining about the cold and getting out there and practicing has absolutely nothing to do with how one treats their classmates. |
| We don’t live in upstate ny. If you actually played lax you would know it sucks in cold weather. There’s a reason its a spring sport. That aside, the other posters advice about how to tolerate the beginning of the season is good. |
C’mon lady stop sheltering your son. Have you thought maybe it’s how all boys speak and give each other a hard time and your overbearing and helicopter parenting style is making your son soft like cotton. |
Spoken like a true gentleman. |
Spring starts in late March. If lacrosse were only played in the Spring the season would be 5-weeks long. It's called a Spring sport, but much of it, starting with pre-season practice, is played in January, February and early March (which is, if you are not familiar with it, Winter. If you cannot stand the cold, maybe you ought to consider an indoor sport. |
