Lax, any sport really, is a great tool for that provided you don’t blow it by warping them with your own neuroses and what-if’s and instead ensure they’re learning about dedication and persistence and team work while playing with friends and making new ones, and being there for other friends who live with parents who don’t know what matters. Good luck.
More parents need to think like you. Besides the small few who go on to the pros or coaching, who cares about a 12 year old playing a game with a stick and a ball. All youth sports nowadays has gone too far and parents push kids too hard and pay for things that don't even matter.
