The effort to use a club program for the benefit of a high school (Prep) failed due to IAC rules. The expansion of the Annapolis Hawks, Maryland Hawks (2021), didn't happen because the IAC won't let a coach (Urick) coach more than 5 players on a team that are part of his high school program. Wonder if the WCAC has the same rule? |
Prep got very good with its club feeder. |
|
Yeah, i'm not sure if those iac rules are real. giblin also taught at mater dei, so between his club and teaching, he got all those kids for along time until the economy tanked and people realized gonzaga was a great value and had a great coach who wasn't a jackass.
i'm sure giblin thinks he'll reproduce that success in nova but it's not going to happen. |
That feeder has been going heavily towards Gonzaga for several years now, which matches the decline in Prep lacrosse since 2015. |
| What about Pride for girls? |
| Pride is a good club. 2nd best in the DMV behind Stars. Run by excellent people who are teaching the game the right way. |
| Agree Pride is a great program. Out daughter played for Pride and is now committed to an IVy for lacrosse. |
Depends whether on A or B team. In our experience there is a significant disparity in coaching, tournaments and talent between the two. |
Pride is a very fine organization but their program has a major drawback - the teams do not, expcet for the 8th grade team, play in a Spring league such as the MGLL, in which all other elite clubs in the DC-Baltimore area play. This is because the founder of Pride, Elle Golub, wants the girls to play in the McLean rec league in the Spring. This decsion severely restrains the growth and ability of the Pride teams (they dont play togther in a Spring league like all the other top clubs). Pride teams are never in the top bracket in tournmaments as they have missed out on the value of playing time as a team in a Spring league. This decison by Pride's owner also stops girls from a wider geographiocally area from choosing Pride as girls from DC and Bethesda/Potomac dont have a local lax rec league to play in. Plus, no local rec league can provide kids with the same competitive level of growth and development as the top elite leagues. |
Okay but Pride ends in 8th grade so what high school club did she play for that helped her get recruited? |
New poster but couldn't agree more. Terrible rude coach and parents to match. We have observed the behavior for years. |
| Thoughts on Heros? |
They are a good club especially if you're on Green. I've heard there are some toxic coaches so just check it out beforehand. They do practice far out there, in case that's an issue. Another suggestion is Rebels. My daughter plays Rebels and has for several years. She has a very strong team but it varies by age group. The coaches also vary but we have always been lucky and had great coaches so it hasn't been a problem. We have loved the other parents as well and for my daughter it has been like a second family. Like anything it really depends on your child and the group in the year your child plays. If my child were in a different grad year we might not have had a great experience with Rebels but I can tell you it has been a good place for our child so maybe check it out. |
Hero's Green is always a top team but its not convenient if you live in NoVa or DC or Bethesda. For 2022's the Hero's Green and White teams are both very good, less difference in ability than in most orgainizatons between the "A" and "B" teams.. |
| Is MC Elite 2022 aging a "B" team this year? I think its the only year with just an "A" team. |
