Private School Lacrosse Thread

by the way, if you're making a point about sjc's commits, bullis is also coed and has a ton of commits these days.
eventually, sjc will have plenty of commits as well given its trajectory

Any feedback on Cardinals Girls Lacrosse would be appreciated. My middle schooler has played with a top girls club the past couple years and it hasn't been the best fit for her.

Are Club Blue boys sticking with the program now that it has split and created a VA and MD team? I know a lot of Mater Dei boys play for Club Blue, so wondering if the MD team will practice close in or far out? Just wondering if it has changed for players/families or if everyone is sticking with it?

Club Blue was formed originally to funnel kids into Georgetown Prep. Kevin Gibin is the founder of the program.

Now that he is the HC at Bishop O'Connell, he has now formed a Club Blue VA program. I would imagine the end goal is to help grow the game but also attract some kids to look at O'Connell.

That's interesting info, but does not answer the question about whether NWDC and close in Bethesda/Chevy Chase (lots of Mater Dei) boys will be leaving Club Blue this year and trying out for other clubs instead?

Those kids will probably stay as there is a pipeline to Gonzaga.
Why any of the VA kids would play for that douchebag is beyond me, esp since there are plenty of better programs in NOVA.

On the boys side, they have had college commits each of the last 2 years, if that is something important to your family.

And Sidwell had a commit this year too. Not many by the standards of Landon or Bullis or Prep, but that aside, impressive by national standards.

Best (by far) girl player at Sidwell just left to play at Visi for high school. Sadly, Maret doesn't have any top girl players from 8th grade up. Maybe with a new coach they may attract some.

Visi seems to pilfer the better players from other schools.

She was 90% of their middle school team and a great kid too. From what I know, she was just tired of the grind/excessive workload at Sidwell and will likely find things much easier at Visi from an academic standpoint so that she can enjoy high school. Either way, I am sure Sidwell is sad to see her go!

I don't think Cardinal is usually too strong but it might depend on the year because clubs can sometimes have one great team and others that are less so. Where else is she looking?

Its mediocre, depends on the year. Locally, Pride has a better, stronger program. Stars and MC Elite have much stronger programs.

Landon, Prep or Gonzaga average at least 6 commits per year, and often higher. SJC and St. Albans fewer, more like 2 a year.

Are you asking about D1 commits or all commits? If all commits, those numbers are higher.

I'm a different poster, but it seems to me D3 commits should "count" also. In which case I agree in any given year the commit numbers could be double that.

D 3 recruits definitely "count". Apart from the Ivies and a handful of the Top 20 D 1 schools like Duke and Hopkins, in the main, the top 20 D 3 schools (schools like Williams, Haverford, W and L, Oberlin, etc, are as good as if not better academic institutions than D 1 counterparts.

She has played for 2 of these clubs already. Considering she may go to public HS we are hoping to find a club that will carry her through HS. I know Stars has Capitals but very difficult to make.

It is tough. While there are more girls clubs than even 5-8 years ago they still are not as prevalent in number as the boys clubs, which if you follow this thread seem to be on the downswing anyway. Have you considered going back to a club where she has been already? Sometimes taking a breather from a club can change the dynamic on both sides and the return to a club can be successful. Otherwise I think you'll have to look north at some of the Baltimore clubs. But you need to be quick. Tryouts for a lot of clubs are occurring right now or coming up shortly.

Check out Virginia Metro. They go through high school and most of the kids go to or will attend a public high school.

The guy who heads VA Metro is a nut job and has a history of body shaming girls (calling them fat). Plus some of the most obnoxious and rude sideline participats are form VA Metro. I recently observed them at a tournament and was apalled at their behavior. I would stay far away from VA Metro.

MC Elite goes thru highschool and has a decent record of committs. If she is good though, Capital is the best club in the area for highschools and has the best record of committs to top schools (top academically and top for lax). Its ture it hard to make Capital but its worth a shot.
