This is quite simply not true. "As we grow older, our facial bones including our eye sockets, nose and upper jaw continue to change. For example, our eye sockets enlarge, and the angle of the bones beneath our eyebrows decreases which could contribute to the formation of frown lines on our foreheads, "crow's feet" at the corners of our eyes and droopy lower eyelids, the researchers say. Although these changes occurred in both sexes, many occurred earlier in women between young and middle age. In men, most of the changes occurred between middle age and old age." https://www.livescience.com/35332-face-bones-aging-110104.html |
You dismiss all the posters who said older and pick the one convenient to your claim. The reason I know your mother is not 50-55 is because I am 51. People tell me I look young for my age all the time, but the difference is that I don’t get high on my own supply. (Also everyone still thinks Golden Girls and don’t know what modern aging looks like). I look like a 51 year old with a good HHI who prioritizes exercise, medical care, and reasonable portions, and lives in an urban center in the first world. There is zero chance that your mother and I stand next to each other and people think we’re peers. |
Because you probably look like youthful, like an average low 40s US woman. If you compare my mom to the photos of "average US 50s women" you'll see why people often think she's mid 50s. And yes, my point is that according to my observations, women who take care of their bodies on average age more gracefully than men. Yes, women's hair are thinner at 60, but men don't even have hair by that point! No matter how much he exercises, he would be bolding. And not all women have jawls by late 40s. People have a narrative and perception of 40-50s women looking like Golden Girls cast actresses. No, they actually more and more are looking like Salma Hayek, using sports and cosmetic enhancements to their benefit. Women now age like a good wine, and men (at least in my observation at a very expensive gym) age worse. |
You are making my point with your celebrity examples. People don’t know what 50 looks like. So if you look younger than a Golden Girl people think you are young for your age. But that’s not at all what modern first world aging looks like (and that’s even before we get to the hair/bone changes that others have posted about). Also the photos of the women in the “average 50 year old” pictures were taken much closer up to their face. Your mother’s face was at a distance. How can you not see these differences? |
The % of men and women in their 40s and 50s that younger people (35 and under) would find attractive is about the same for both genders. Probably 1%. It's impossible for one gender to judge the other because they are looking at attraction through different lenses. |
We are talking about different things. Yes, everyone knows men loose their bone and muscular density slower than women, thanks to testosterone. But at the same time, women who exercise or/are on HRT that includes testosterone, are able to maintain their muscular and bone density well into 60s. Also women have many more cosmetic procedures (and the will to use these procedures to address aging concerns) than men. The modern medicine made huge steps forward in hormone therapy, sports medicine and cosmetic procedures. Men have little desire to maintain their looks: they think it's forgiving not to go to the dentist, not to have pedicure, to have a belly etc. DMV is a city of obese law partners (when I was dating in DC). All these men making $2m+ a year were overweight and still thought they could date me (a very fit athletic woman). When women have money they invest it in their looks. When men get money, they spend it on women, food, wine and addictions. |
That's a lot of words to say that you can't fool people into thinking you are 10-15 years younger than your actual age. |
Still, in real life when she wears make up men who are in their 50-60s hit on her all the time as they think she's in her 50s. Maybe you can see a difference as you are taking a good care of your skin, probably look youthful and know what a well maintained woman in her 50s look like. But men in their 50-60s really don't know crap But leaving my mother aside, there are many actresses who look amazing and very youthful in their late 50s and I personally would think they are early to mid 40s if I met them in real life: Halle Berry, Salma Hayek, for example. |
You can't fool those who are experts on skin care or sports themselves, but you absolutely can the 90% "average" people somewhere in Midwest. |

As a good example of a woman looking 10+ years younger: Salma's photos in bikinis, from close distance. Obviously, she had Sculptra or hyaluronic injections in her neck/chest area. No wrinkles whatsoever in these age revealing zones - I would think this is a 40s woman:

They are both gorgeous women who look every bit of 58. |
Not true at all. If you were in the dating world you'd know that plenty of late 20s and early 30s would go after people who are in shape in their 40s. 50s is starting to push it though. |
No, they don't. You are just trying to prove your point that everyone looks their own age. No they look much, much younger than an average US 58 yo woman. See an AI generated "typical US 58 yo" here: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-generated/realistic-portrait-58yearold-french-woman-soft-2451471743 |
40s men are often chatting with fit 50s women. If any woman looks like Salma Hayek in her 50s, men of all ages below that would be hitting on her, for variety of kinks and attraction reasons |
lol, what is the junk? Btw, the image says French woman. By the way, many posters appear to be arguing with you. I no longer have any idea what you are saying. If you are saying that woman can look great at any age if they put care into their health and appearance, most people agree. If you are saying that this makes them look younger than their chronological age, most people disagree. If you say men can’t tell much about makeup, skin care, etc, most people agree. If you are saying men don’t put the same effort into appearance as women, duh, welcome to the word. |
