OP— Have you tried Mark Hyman’s Sugar Solution 10 day Detox Diet? I was having the same problem as you. I also had GD. It has worked very well and I have not had to take those medications. I have lost weight and all my blood test results show my cholesterol, blood sugar and triglycerides decreasing all through diet. |
Thanks for posting. My doctor talked me into Wegovy. I’m prescription is at the pharmacy now and I’m waiting on insurance approval now. I was a bit resistant to the idea, so I’m hoping it works.

I’m starting tonight. I’m very excited and praying to find some relief from the constant food noise. I’ve gained 50 lbs in the last year. I think due to perimenopause and dealing with my spouse’s infidelity. I’m in therapy, but have a constant pull for food. I already exercise daily and hope to continue.

DP but (most) people aren’t taking these meds on a whim. This is a last resort after years of dieting without success. |
I have not, but I have tried intermittent fasting, cutting calories, increasing activity, reducing stress, improving my sleep, incorporating supplements, cutting out all sugar (including added sugar), gluten/wheat/grains, alcohol, coffee (!), and processed food, and have actually gained weight. It is absurd. My blood sugar remains elevated and when I don’t suck in my stomach I look six months pregnant. |
+1 Thank you. I’m only going on Wegovy because of my doctor’s deep concern about my weight and how it relates to my increased A1C and fasting glucose levels that are just shy of pre diabetes, but increasing fast over the last year. I have lost 60lbs once and then 80lbs a second time on WW; it has all come back each time after I stopped obsessively counting points. The last time, my doctor told me to stop restricting because even though I was almost at my goal weight having lived in a calorie deficit for over a year had me almost fainting and my hair falling out—even though I’d only been losing 1 to 2 pounds per week. The reason I have all of this extra weight is medicine I need in order to live. Before I went on it in my mid thirties I was naturally thin with a BMI of around 21. Now it is 35. I know who Mark Hyman is; I’ve read his work. His “10 day detox” isn’t going to help me. Hopefully Wegovy will; at least my pcp thinks it will. |
No, but I've done his previous detox diets several times over the years. Each time, I lost weight and had positive changes to bloodwork. |

Given how hard it is to get injectable semaglutide right now because so many people are trying to lose 10-20 lbs, I'm curious if the oral form of semaglutide is effective?
-way more than 20 lbs to lose |
I am guessing that you gained weight on those diets because you were very hungry all the time and craved certain foods. Maybe I am completely off base. While I do feel hungry on this detox diet, which sounds very similar to what you tried, I never am at the point where I feel like I am starving and need to go on a binge. The diet evens out my blood sugar and allows me to eat small snacks when I feel myself getting hungry. I have made sure to eat enough protein, which most people understand helps keep you satisfied, but also I have added healthy fats to my diet which has made a tremendous difference between me feeling like I am starving or satisfied. On this diet you will also drink a glass of water with a fiber supplement in it before every meal. Fiber has been proven to make people feel more full. Hyman advertises his own fiber supplement and other supplements, but you don't need to buy his stuff. You can use other brands of supplements. It's pretty amazing that I have been able to maintain this diet because, like you, I couldn't lose weight and ended up gaining weight every time I tried to lose it! I tried losing weight for 5 years and was unsuccessful. I feel so happy about the success I have had. I think it is worth a try to avoid taking medication. |
Do they make this in blow-gun dart form yet? |
Wow great results everyone!
I'm curious - for the people who are at GW, are you planning to stay on the injections indefinitely? Is there a phasing out/down process? Has anyone gone off, and the food noise come back? Or has your body gotten used to the smaller portions/etc that it doesnt happen? |
Wow - how tall are you? You didn’t start out very overweight and looks like you ended up underweight. Unless you are 5 ft tall or something. |

Got down to 246 (7 months), then got pregnant Happy to be pregnant but darn. Definitely getting back on it as soon as I'm done breastfeeding. Ugh I loved not thinking about food, it was glorious. |
I'm not sure if you are interested in my results, as I've used Mounjaro/Zepbound, but . . .
Age: 57 SW: 242 CW: 170 GW: Not sure, but around 130 Started with Mounjaro at the beginning of August 2023. Saw an instant change in food noise. Suddenly, eating healthy became easy. Before the medication, thoughts about food and trying to make good choices consumed a significant amount of my energy. The medication created mental space to focus on healthy eating and increased movement. I had a bit of a break from the medication at the beginning of this year when my insurance stopped covering Mounjaro. Currently using the discount card to pay for Zepbound. My weight loss has slowed in recent months, but I keep losing steadily. Physically, I was absolutely miserable at my SW and though I tried to walk/exercise, it was a slog. As the pounds have come off, I've increased my activity, both in duration and intensity. |
