OP— Have you tried Mark Hyman’s Sugar Solution 10 day Detox Diet? I was having the same problem as you. I also had GD. It has worked very well and I have not had to take those medications. I have lost weight and all my blood test results show my cholesterol, blood sugar and triglycerides decreasing all through diet.
I have not, but I have tried intermittent fasting, cutting calories, increasing activity, reducing stress, improving my sleep, incorporating supplements, cutting out all sugar (including added sugar), gluten/wheat/grains, alcohol, coffee (!), and processed food, and have actually gained weight. It is absurd. My blood sugar remains elevated and when I don’t suck in my stomach I look six months pregnant.
I am guessing that you gained weight on those diets because you were very hungry all the time and craved certain foods. Maybe I am completely off base. While I do feel hungry on this detox diet, which sounds very similar to what you tried, I never am at the point where I feel like I am starving and need to go on a binge. The diet evens out my blood sugar and allows me to eat small snacks when I feel myself getting hungry. I have made sure to eat enough protein, which most people understand helps keep you satisfied, but also I have added healthy fats to my diet which has made a tremendous difference between me feeling like I am starving or satisfied. On this diet you will also drink a glass of water with a fiber supplement in it before every meal. Fiber has been proven to make people feel more full. Hyman advertises his own fiber supplement and other supplements, but you don't need to buy his stuff. You can use other brands of supplements. It's pretty amazing that I have been able to maintain this diet because, like you, I couldn't lose weight and ended up gaining weight every time I tried to lose it! I tried losing weight for 5 years and was unsuccessful. I feel so happy about the success I have had. I think it is worth a try to avoid taking medication.
