And you think it is "great" to play politics with people's lives and livelihoods.

What's that say about you?

45 isn’t the mastermind, he’s the puppet. This is Miller and DeVos.

This announcement came hours after Harvard said they were going online only.

How much do you want to bet that Steven Miller, with his BA from Duke, has a chip on his shoulder about the schools that rejected him? Tending to his xenophobic agenda while taking a hit at Harvard? Two birds, one stone.

PP is a bad writer then. And I assume that PP is you.

No. Trump is forcing many of these colleges, many of which are only allowing some students back on campus and holding few if any in person classes to give the on campus housing and in person classes to international students instead of American ones. So all of Harvard’s American sophomore and juniors will be expected to stay home this year, but internationals will get on campus spots. And all classes will be online for American students. But, international students will be able to attend enough classes to qualify in person.

Trump is moron who is actually putting the needs of international students over the needs of American students at a time when in person classes and on campus beds are scarce. He isn’t going to force colleges to open up unsafely like Florida. He is going to force them to prioritize international students for scarce resources to keep the international students tuition that they need.

He’s also putting colleges in a position where they can’t move online if there is a second wave spike and it’s not safe to keep campus open. And it won’t be the students who will be flooding the hospitals. It will be the older members of the local community they infect.

This is a moronic idea for so many reasons. But mostly because of the unintended consequences.

And yes, it’s also cruelty as a feature, not a bug.

Georgetown is already doing this..

Not surprised about Penn State!!! They are all about getting $$$$ from international and oos students and they don’t give a lick about instate kids. Same with Pitt. If it were up to me they wouldn’t get any state funding whatsoever.

Good explanation of the lawsuit's claims: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1281050120558166018.html?fbclid=IwAR272WuJ59YTSo-o1-jJf_KhxkJySTuwH3DIYL1gmTsir8I9xYlvf71bkk0

TLDR;

The March ICE waiver re intl students and 100% online learning said it would remain in effect until the national emergency (Trump declaration) was over. However, that declaration remains in effect.

In revoking the waiver, ICE said that the worst of hte crisis had passed. Infection and death rates are far higher now than in March 2020.

No comment period. Totally bypassed the Administrative Procedures Act. Sloppy lawyering.

Harvard: 5K of 23K on F-1 visas
MIT: 4K of 11,500 on F-1 visas

Many colleges don't even know what they are doing yet (my own kid's included - we don't expect to learn anything about online vs. in-person for a few more weeks). I'm not sure how these young people are supposed to just magically transfer a few weeks before fall classes.

I'm sure that colleges and universities were also counting on tuition and room & board money from international students who are now going to have to withdraw. I wish Stephen Miller would crawl back into the hole that he slithered out of.

It has nothing to do with Trump. These regs are ten years old.

So colleges and schools are supposedto open up, but incoming students across the world can't get visa appointments to come to the US. One cancellation after another.

I doubt the White House expects this to last long. It feels more like a Trump base-pleasing move. A federal will block it and Trump will be have gained support from the Deplorables.

All over America college students are giving their in person class spots to international students. I am constantly amazed by Gen Z. These kids (our kids) are kind.

UT now saying all classes will have an in person component so it’s intl students don’t have visa issues. Sounds wise for a school of 50K in a state and city with a surge of cases (not).

Most colleges that are open at all are will be giving intl students priority for registration so they can grab the in person slots they need (good IMO).. Statements have been rolling out.
