We are such a sh**hole country. I am so ashamed. The time that the US has been a leader in the world, and a destination for the best and brightest from everywhere is coming to an end.
I have heard of at least one college where international students will be in person, and domestic synchronous online in response to this. |
|
I bet this gets revised. Universities will revise/tweak their plans so there is some kind of something in person, and that will let the international students that want to remain in US.
I also think the ICE rule will be modified, because of the economic impact. These kinds of adjustments are happening due to pressure/blowback. Recent example. Georgia Tech said it was "encouraging" not requiring students to wear masks. Swift condemnation. Within 24 hours, they now are requiring students to wear masks. |

The schools need to amplify the messaging that this is going to cost $41B in GDP.

| Trump wants colleges to open so he’s forcing them by not letting international students come back in unless schools open. Trump is a great politician. Amazing. |
Classy |
So you agree with ICE sending the students home or you agree with Trump encouraging colleges to open so they can stay? You can’t have it both ways |
No. Trump is forcing many of these colleges, many of which are only allowing some students back on campus and holding few if any in person classes to give the on campus housing and in person classes to international students instead of American ones. So all of Harvard’s American sophomore and juniors will be expected to stay home this year, but internationals will get on campus spots. And all classes will be online for American students. But, international students will be able to attend enough classes to qualify in person. Trump is moron who is actually putting the needs of international students over the needs of American students at a time when in person classes and on campus beds are scarce. He isn’t going to force colleges to open up unsafely like Florida. He is going to force them to prioritize international students for scarce resources to keep the international students tuition that they need. He’s also putting colleges in a position where they can’t move online if there is a second wave spike and it’s not safe to keep campus open. And it won’t be the students who will be flooding the hospitals. It will be the older members of the local community they infect. This is a moronic idea for so many reasons. But mostly because of the unintended consequences. And yes, it’s also cruelty as a feature, not a bug. |
My college age D connected the dots. All the college kids know this from their FB chats. |
|
This is so stupid, you know how many universities make money from foreign students!!! We are getting more and more insular, soon we'll just be a little white dot then poof we'll just disappear
|
But true. |
| Yesterday, my college senior told us that she is looking at major Canadian and American based companies in Canada for jobs. She says the insanity of the current administration is becoming too much. This is breaking my heart. I said get your friends to the polls and stay 'home.' |
Trump is doing this to force all schools to open in the hopes he can be re-elected. He does not give a shit about us and does not listen to health care professionals. I think this is an outrage and a ploy to force colleges to be in person even if the pandemic is raging out of control. Opening schools should be done under the advice of health care professionals and not under the advice of some monster in chief who is a dumbass who only cares about being re-elected. |
And you think it is "great" to play politics with people's lives and livelihoods. What's that say about you? |
