My DC had an online class last quarter with classmates who were in other countries, and the instructor gave ZERO leeway for them to work around the time differences

Sounds like harvard is going to announce that not all learning will be online in lieu of this. Another hurdle to jump through.

This is what I was going to say. Time for a one credit, small seminar or mentorship open to foreign students only on something like Perspective on COVID in a Foreign County. Or even meet one on one. Kid meets with a professor once a week and they talk about how they are doing. And get one P-F credit. An adult should be keeping tabs on these kids anyway. And I bet most profs, grad students, TAs, counselors, would mentor a kid or two under the circumstances.

This is such an A-hole move. The lab in my industry that provides a resource that no human being can live without is 90% staffed with foreign Phd students doing research. My boss came to chitchat with me out of the blue today, now i realize he was making sure I knew how to do an analysis in case some students have to leave the country.

This is incredibly sad for a lot of students who did all the right things and may not have the resources or ability in their home country, to take online courses - no computer or internet or govt restrictions on G-Suite etc.

And for the US schools, it is an incredible financial burden.
