One of them is lying to me - the cleaners or the neighbor

BS. Did I presume they're guilty because they are of different race? No. I presumed they're guilty because someone I trusted claimed to be a witness of the wrong doing.

So stop with this racism BS.

The problem, OP, is that you were racist when you said your cleaners were Mexican vs your nice middle class neighbors. You are implying a difference between them.

If you don't care what anyone thinks here, then stop responding. You are not getting out of the perception that you believed your nice MC drug addict neighbor over you Mexican cleaners whose daughter looked at you stone faced when you asked her to do a better job cleaning something. You went in trying to sway the audience with your own terms.

The fact that you trusted your neighbors over the cleaners without evidence is because of racism and classism.

I live in the woods and I literally freaked out once called my husband someone is outside our patio they’re smoking marijuana we need to call police!!! It was a skunk. Seriously. This is entirely feasible.

The cleaner dramatically over-reacted. If you like them and want to keep them, you can reach out again and say that you did not want to offend them, you were just relaying what your neighbors told you. But that type of over-reaction really does not bode well...

And I have no judgment on whether anyone smoked anything. A professional should be able to answer calmly when their client asks whether they were smoking pot!

So you took the word of a druggie who has been to rehab over the cleaners who have been in your weekly for years?

Ok.

If nothing else, hopefully OP has learned to call people who speak Spanish Hispanic.

OP here. I have another pair of cleaners who are Ukrainian. I call them Ukrainians. Should I be calling them "People Who Speak Ukrainian"?

Shut up about the racism already. Get over yourself. If you're from Mexico you're Mexican. There is nothing wrong with it. No reason to feel ashamed about where you come from.

Well, now I believe you are a troll. Multiple pairs of cleaners. Right.

The best part of this post is that the OP keeps coming back to claim she’s not racist, but doubles down on the racism.

OP how on earth is it more believable that a mother and daughter hot boxed a car together at 7:30 am while at work, than the drug addict next door was smoking and lied about it? Other than blatant racism, there really is no explanation.

Known drug addict next door reports smell of drugs.

You [if you were NTA]: “Really? Jeez. I never noticed that before. Thanks for letting me know”

and that’s the end. It was an option. For some reason you decided to get off at YTA Highway instead.

This.

Also, am I the only person who wouldn't care if my cleaners smoked in their car?

Yes. The stuff reeks, and they would reek. And then your house would reek.

Plus if they drive under the influence, they could hurt themselves or others.

Maybe should find a shrink and figure out why you're getting triggered. Then maybe you'll stop screaming "Troll!" in every thread.

Jeff said OP wasn't a sock puppet. That doesn't mean OP didn't make the whole thing up just to string you all along.

I would have never confronted the cleaners and just said "thanks for the information" to the neighbor.

No, they don't smell inside my house.

Then you have your answer. Your neighbor’s drug addict (once an addict, always an addict) daughter is a liar. Shocked face.

The OP has a curious disability that precludes smelling weed. She has to rely on the neighbor's daughter to detect it. Sound insane? It is.

Jeez, I'm sorry. Was I supposed to be sniffing my property thoroughly? I assumed my neighbor was telling the truth. Why would she lie?

She just saw two people drive up and decided this was convenient moment to blame them? Knowing I would probably let them go and they would never be back?

BECAUSE HER DAUGHTER LIED TO HER MOTHER TO DEFLECT ATTENTION AWAY FROM HERSELF BECAUSE SHE WAS SMOKING WEED.

No adult can be this dense. This has to be a troll.

+1

Now you get to clean your own house. Oh well.

Oh, no, that will never happen. She’ll just find some new “possibly illegals” to clean her toilets before the week is out.

100% Exactly what I was thinking.
And who texts someone to tell them what to do or not do on their own time. I hope the MEXICAN cleaners quit and sue you.

OP here. I doubt it. It was 7:30AM. Her mother and sister were in the house. You are saying she was smoking and then she told her mom out of the blue that it was the cleaners who conveniently just arrived?

NP here. Yes. She is an addict. Addicts lie.

Whatever. Find a new cleaning service.

Another NP. Yes OP got snowed by the neighbor.

The druggie neighbor went outside to smoke thinking it would hide the smell, but it got into her clothes. When she went inside, her mother confronted her about the smell and she blamed it on the cleaners who she saw get out of their car in order to save herself. The mother, using the horrible bigoted tropes, believed her daughter, the non-rehabilitated drug addict, and blamed "those people" and told OP, who also followed the horrible bigoted tropes and believed that the "nice looking neighbor girl" over the cleaners who have been faithful and honest with her for 5 years. And then OP did the horrible thing of making the accusation against the cleaners and she's now lost a good service team because she was stupid.

OP, here are a few things to ponder. Drug addicts take a long time to come clean and don't just become clean and honest after a few months. She's been clean for a few months. it is trivially easy to fall off the wagon or to switch from one addition to another. It is significantly more probable that she was smoking the marijuana than the cleaners were. And that she lied about it to protect herself.

You and your neighbor mother both made a horrible decision to believe the daughter with a drug problem over hard working cleaners. The fact that you have to mention that they are Mexican, that you have to identify that you don't know whether they are legal or not. Both of those comments are racist justifications for why are tended towards believing your white neighbor over your cleaners. If your neighbor family was Mexican and your cleaners were white, I bet that you would have believed the cleaners and you wouldn't have the problem. You were very offensive to your cleaners and you deserved for them to cancel working for you as you have proven that you aren't a very trustworthy employer. Any excuse you have, you would lay blame at their feet. The story you were given is so questionable that a non-racist person would not consider blaming the cleaning service and would never have sent the message that you did to them. There is so little credibility to the neighbor's story, and yet, with little to no evidence (you saw nothing and you smelled nothing and relied on the word of a recently recovered drug addict over their word) you accused them of something so irresponsible. They deserved much better treatment from you.

Last, you should revisit your own attitudes. Your actions, plus your subsequent defense of your actions speak to your racial biases. If you don't want to be racist, then you need to do some introspection and some work on your self and your biases.

Ah, OK so calling a Mexican Mexican is racist now. Good to know.
