Neighbor’s daughter was probably smoking it and accused the cleaners to throw suspicion off of herself.
100% Exactly what I was thinking. And who texts someone to tell them what to do or not do on their own time. I hope the MEXICAN cleaners quit and sue you.
OP here. I doubt it. It was 7:30AM. Her mother and sister were in the house. You are saying she was smoking and then she told her mom out of the blue that it was the cleaners who conveniently just arrived?
NP here. Yes. She is an addict. Addicts lie. Whatever. Find a new cleaning service.
Another NP. Yes OP got snowed by the neighbor. The druggie neighbor went outside to smoke thinking it would hide the smell, but it got into her clothes. When she went inside, her mother confronted her about the smell and she blamed it on the cleaners who she saw get out of their car in order to save herself. The mother, using the horrible bigoted tropes, believed her daughter, the non-rehabilitated drug addict, and blamed "those people" and told OP, who also followed the horrible bigoted tropes and believed that the "nice looking neighbor girl" over the cleaners who have been faithful and honest with her for 5 years. And then OP did the horrible thing of making the accusation against the cleaners and she's now lost a good service team because she was stupid. OP, here are a few things to ponder. Drug addicts take a long time to come clean and don't just become clean and honest after a few months. She's been clean for a few months. it is trivially easy to fall off the wagon or to switch from one addition to another. It is significantly more probable that she was smoking the marijuana than the cleaners were. And that she lied about it to protect herself. You and your neighbor mother both made a horrible decision to believe the daughter with a drug problem over hard working cleaners. The fact that you have to mention that they are Mexican, that you have to identify that you don't know whether they are legal or not. Both of those comments are racist justifications for why are tended towards believing your white neighbor over your cleaners. If your neighbor family was Mexican and your cleaners were white, I bet that you would have believed the cleaners and you wouldn't have the problem. You were very offensive to your cleaners and you deserved for them to cancel working for you as you have proven that you aren't a very trustworthy employer. Any excuse you have, you would lay blame at their feet. The story you were given is so questionable that a non-racist person would not consider blaming the cleaning service and would never have sent the message that you did to them. There is so little credibility to the neighbor's story, and yet, with little to no evidence (you saw nothing and you smelled nothing and relied on the word of a recently recovered drug addict over their word) you accused them of something so irresponsible. They deserved much better treatment from you. Last, you should revisit your own attitudes. Your actions, plus your subsequent defense of your actions speak to your racial biases. If you don't want to be racist, then you need to do some introspection and some work on your self and your biases.
