np who cares if it is natural or not? You seem very judgy |
Ok Grandma. Can we get back to the conversation now? |
Say what? The vast majority of women under the age of 40 (yes, that is 4-0, forty, 40) who try to get pregnant will be pregnant within a year. Of course, if you're one of the exceptions, it can be tremendously painful. I get that. |
+1. It’s literally disinformation, with truly devastating consequences. |
Uh, we’re on an entertainment and pop culture board. Being judgy is to be expected. That said, I’m not judging her for how she chose to get pregnant or getting pregnant at 48. I’m judging her for perpetuating the notion that this is a natural occurrence in any way. As others have said, she’s a public figure and statements like this lead younger women (and the general public) to think that this is typical or even possible. Instead of blathering on about it being a miracle or pointing to twins in their families, it would have been a lot better if she just announced she was pregnant with twins, and over the moon about it. |

I’m the PP who mentioned Marcia Cross - I dug up her statement and I really appreciated her honesty. I remember being in my late 20s at the time and realizing I didn’t even know that there was such a thing as donor eggs. And no, of course no one should rely on celebrities for medical information. But that doesn’t mean they get a pass for propping up fertility myths, either.
The actress underwent in-vitro fertilization to achieve the pregnancy, and has spoken in the past about the need for older women to be aware of challenges to their fertility, saying, "I don’t like the average woman being misled into thinking that fertility is something that goes on forever. When a woman gets older, they get a donor egg, which doesn’t make the baby any less beautiful or perfect. One’s own eggs only last so long, and sometimes at 43 or 44 you can have your own baby, but statistically it’s very difficult and expensive. You don’t want to wait that long. |
| I guess one of you planted a nanny cam in Hilary’s bedroom. Wire tapped her bras. |
You Don’t Know This For Sure |
Her magical thinking is entirely her own. Also not everyone does have fertility struggles even late in life. And saying as much is not giving false hope, it’s a different experience. Some women will never get pregnant even if they try at 21, others will conceive if someone smiles at them. It’s not up to you to call out every person who doesn’t align with your expectations. |
Me too! I got pregnant at 43 DE and some friends just demanded to know … my business is my business not yours. Besides I have twin sisters IRL. So I just referred to that and keep my business to myself. It’s hard when you are celebrity at 48 to really get anyone to believe it was just a miracle! |
Hilary isn’t reading this so nobody is calling her out. Just discussing the remote possibility this is as natural as she is making it out. The odds are truly against her. |
| I saw the Live with Kelly and Ryan clip. I didn’t get the sense she was ever claiming she got pregnant with twins because it runs in her family. I think she was merely making fun conversation about twins. Ryan had asked what twins meant and everyone laughed and she said “two.” Then she said she had some family members who were twins. She said her grandmother was a twin. I think you all are blowing it out of proportion. I think it’s still a miracle to get pregnant at 48 with twins even with IVF and that’s probably how she feels. She’s most likely been trying for years. Leave her alone! |
What an ignorant comment. I have been pregnant 4 times after the age 37: two healthy babies, one miscarriage and one termination at age 44 no less. Just because it is hard for some, it doesn’t mean it is hard for all women to easily get pregnant after 35 or even after 40. You know what is hard? Being young, penniless, immature and having to raise a child. |
Which doctors? The ones who want you to jump straight to IVF and pay them thousands of dollars? They probably know, but they likely are not always telling you the truth. I was told at age 38 by an ART specialist that I need to get straight to IVF because my eggs are almost all gone. I proceeded to get pregnant not once, but 4 times, all on the first try (ok, one on the second try). Two healthy babies at age 38 and 41. |
+1. Fertility isn’t even declining in most folks at 30… Who gave you these numbers? |
