The rate of identical twins with ART is much higher than natural conception. You never know with people if they aren't open about treatment. |
| There is something not very kind in speculation on someone’s fertility. |
Not if there is a high likelihood someone is being dishonest. Talking about twins running in the family makes it seem like they are passing this off as a natural conception which is not very likely. It's like bragging that having perfect wrinkle free skin is just good genes when the secret is really Botox. |
| 48 is really old. |
This. I agree I hate it when celebrities pretend it just happened. We all know it was IVF, it’s not strange or weird or controversial. Just own it. |
Really? I assume the opposite. Older women produce eggs like it's a 4th of July fireworks finale. |
But not a lot of viable ones. Quantity goes up, perhaps, but quality goes way down. |
These are assumptions. |
I know someone who was told she could not get pregnant, only to find herself pregnant with identical twins at the age of 45. No IVF or anything. It happens. |
So? |
+1. Yeah strangely older women more likely to conceive twins- my ob told me this |
So does the risk of deformities, downs, autism, etc in the fetus. |
Also more likely to have twin are women who undergo IVF. Twins are statistically rare naturally. It's not a great stretch of the imagination to imagine a 48 year old woman, expecting twins, might have had some help. And good for her if she did, there's nothing wrong with it. But you can't blame people for coming to a logical conclusion. "Natural twin rates are at about 2%. Put simply, twins are rare. Assisted reproductive technologies changed this.Centers for Disease Control (CDC) research found that of infants conceived with ART: 43% were twins" https://fertilityinstitute.com/blog/the-risk-of-multiples-pregnancy-with-ivf/ |
This was my sister’s MIL and my SIL’s grandmother so we definitely know they didn’t have fertility treatments since none existed at the time. |
Stay on the subject. |
