I just saw Hilary Swank is expecting twins at age 48. Her comments about like “twins run in my family” and “it is such a miracle” make it sound like it was natural. I know this is totally petty, but it drives me crazy when celebrities pretend like they just naturally conceived twins at a very advanced maternal age.

| Hmm. Ok. That’s old. |
| There's some evidence to suggest older mothers are more likely to conceive twins naturally- like your cycle goes wonky and there's a firesale on eggs, dropping more than one a month. So it's not totally impossible. |
| She's been married for four years. Maybe she's been trying since she was 44? |
Yeah but she’s a celeb with amazing medical care. |
| I’d pretty much guarantee you she used donor eggs. I’d bet big money on that. |
| good for her. agree it's DE. |
| I thought odds of natural twins go up with maternal age |
| Who cares? As long as they're happy, I'm happy for them. I don't care what story they want to put out there about conception. It's their business. |
This. If you're an old mother, the odds of twins are much higher. |
+1 Why would this drive you crazy, OP? |
| She may have used her own frozen eggs but it’s almost 100% IVF. It’s a miracle indeed, of modern medicine. |
This. It's no fluke of nature. |
| It's not a total impossibility to conceive & deliver, naturally, at that age. It's not like she's 70. But yeah total probability in this case that it took a lot of science to accomplish. Wish them well. |
| It’s possible, but statistically very unlikely. She’s in a tough spot; she shouldn’t have to disclose medical information publicly. It probably does feel like a miracle, even if she used donor eggs. |
