Seriously, step back. This thread has been taken over by some people who seem to be working out old hurts here. Do that shit in therapy, and stop taking it out on strangers on dcum.

The crazy yelling, cursing poster needs to calm down. She has totally derailed this thread and obviously has some anger issues as well as unresolved insecurities.

Well, I wouldn't single her out. There are plenty unresolved issues all around.

My DC attended a W feeder (not Whitman) through elementary and is now in private, I wish we had moved him sooner.

Can you elaborate? What about the private was a better fit for your biracial child?

I'm a PP with a biracial kid and I freely admit I have issues. We all do, right?

But coming on here and flipping out over how many other students of color need to be at a school (to make a biracial kid feel like he belongs) seems a bit over the top. So many other factors go into a kid's education and childhood experience.

Frankly the mist racist people in our communitry are diversity this multicultural that yingyangs who can see nothing but race.

How about we stop branding everyone as a race demographic cattle to be herded and charted with a check in the box??

Yeah as a kid I started checking other... I was filling out a new patient form the other day and the very first line had 4 boxes you could check. African American, Asian, white and Hawaiian. Really Hawaiian?!?!?! I immediately shredded the document and chose another doctor.

OMG!! This drives me batty. They won't even let you check other anymore in MCPS. No Mixed Race Unspecified anymore. You HAVE to choose from the boxes.

When DS enrolled in K, I checked off an extra box just for good measure. What, are they going to make me prove it?? Ridiculous. Why do they need to pigeon hole my kid before he even starts K?

DP here. That is absolutely not what the PP was saying. I'm a POC and it drives me nuts.

First of, one box for Asians? As if all Asians are the same? Or one box for Latino? Again, my Columbian neighbor would be horrified to be lumped in with the Salvadorians.

Tell her to check the jackass box if she's so horrified to be lumped with "the Salvadorians"

Bottom line is this-African Americans who want their kid to get a good education will have to tolerate more whites and asians in the school (more than likely a disproportionate amount compared to African American and/or Hispanic kids), because that is just the way it is. Schools that score well and do well tend to have more white and asian kids in them. It also has to do with wealth, but even in PG county, where many African Americans have money, good educations and jobs, the schools are low performing, riddled with behavior issues and just not well regarded. I am not sure why this is, but it is a fact that cannot be "washed" away by calling others names like racist. There are several African immigrants in my DC's school. In general, these children are well behaved, respectful, get excellent grades and take their educations seriously. This cannot be blamed on skin color at all. It is a cultural thing and sadly, many African Americans are stuck in a vicious cycle that needs to be broken-and it has to start from them and with them. Blaming white folks who never owned a slave and were not even alive during that time is not going to solve this. Ironically, the only way "out" is through a good education.

I don't care what color my kids' teachers are. I don't care what color my kids' friends are. I want my kid to be surrounded by families who care about education, no matter what country they are from. It is if zero importance to me that my child have POC as his teachers. Honestly for younger DS, there are so rarely male teachers in ES that I think I'd even prefer a white male teacher over a black female teacher.

I want families who are not going to make my kid feel that he's being 'too white' because he wants to do well in school. You can pretend that doesn't happen, but we know better.
