First of, one box for Asians? As if all Asians are the same? Or one box for Latino? Again, my Columbian neighbor would be horrified to be lumped in with the Salvadorians.

Those boxes are usually asking for race, not ethnicity. When they are asking for ethnicity, there are generally more options.

I don't care what color my kids' teachers are. I don't care what color my kids' friends are. I want my kid to be surrounded by families who care about education, no matter what country they are from. It is if zero importance to me that my child have POC as his teachers. Honestly for younger DS, there are so rarely male teachers in ES that I think I'd even prefer a white male teacher over a black female teacher.

I want families who are not going to make my kid feel that he's being 'too white' because he wants to do well in school. You can pretend that doesn't happen, but we know better.

Any day of the week! It may sound racist, but I would prefer a black male teacher over a black female teacher (at lest the ones I have found in public schools across the inner cities). I would think this would not be the case in a private school. That being said, there are plenty of horrible teachers of all races and genders-Ironically, one of my favorite and best teachers was a black woman when I was in 5th grade. Absolutely loved her but she was a are gem!

Any POC with a white collar job lives that reality everyday and has no illusions of expecting much different in school. What they want is to ensure their child's identity, confidence and emotional well-being isn't negatively affected in the process. I'm multi racial and grew up attending an all white school - very rarely was anyone outwardly mean or nasty because of my ethnicity, but that doesn't mean I always felt included and that being noticeably different didn't affect my self-esteem.

Maybe things have changed drastically in 20 years since I was in school since people are so dismissive of OPs concerns in this thread.

Uhhmmm..Slavery. Jim Crow. Voting Rights Act disabled. That statement is just factually incorrect. White people have committed domestic terrorism against minorities and black americans in particular for decades. We've done it through laws and just norms.

In case it allows you to let go of some of that White Guilt - It may be true in the Western World and in recent history that Whites have slaughtered minorities, but there are PLENTY of cultures all over the world (of various races) who slaughtered people who are different. It's not an exclusively White sin unfortunately.

My point is that it's somehow PC and expected to lump all minorities into certain groups. What does that accomplish? Not all Latinos come from the same background. Not all Asains come from the same background. Talk to the Pakistanis and Indians about how they feel about all being lumped together in the same box labeled Asian.

Quite insightful of you. The reality is if it wasn't Europeans who dominated the globe and slaughtered others, it would have been the Asians, or the Africans or the Arabs. We were ignorant savages all the way around and to lay it on whites for eternity is simpleminded especially when any other group would have done the same given the opportunity.
