I would try to find an up-do that works for you. I wear a bun constantly. A friend of mine just works the messy braid (and looks great!).

I use kerastase products. For your hair I would try the oleo-relax.
I just wear my hair in a bun. Between the weather, pools, and my children's hair-pulling, I find myself wearing it in a bun constantly. If it gets wet and messy, I just leave it and tell myself it looks more modern that way.
You need a light reflecting Concealer for under your eyes. While Laura Mercier Secret Camo is perfect for regular concealing (I use it every day), it is too thick for under your eyes. I would recommend something like revlons under eye concealer (around $10) or the Clinique stuff mentioned above.

I bought touche éclat from YSL. The packaging is divine. The application is lovely. It made absolutely no difference other than being out about $60. Lisa Eldrige doesn't like it either (but loves their foundation). However, I've had friends who won't leave the house without it! I might try some cheaper alternatives first though.

Good luck!

Oooo can you recommend any places? I really want to get mine done. I just maintain like crazy and still go to my girl in new york. It's time to cut the cord and find one in dc.
Anonymous wrote:yes, your hair will adjust. The oil glands go into over-drive when you wash everyday. I am at the point where I can go 2-3 days between if I wanted. It's especially helpful if you've just gotten it done etc.

I agree. Your oil glands will adjust I think. I also have similar hair (not blonde though!) and I was worried about the greasiness. After few weeks it adjusted nicely.
I think it depends on your hair type. Everyone and their mother harped on me for years for the daily hair wash. I tried the every other day thing for a while (with a dry shampoo refresher) and it worked for me.

I got a sample of that at Sephora and it dried out my lips like crazy.

That's such a shame! I love that stuff so much!
A good eyebrow threading will make you look younger, more polished, and more put together.

I have threaded my brows since college. There have been times in my life where I didn't have time to do it, and I just looked awful. I do not have a unibrow or anyhting, but I just looked so unpolished.

The key is to not overdo it. All you need is to SHAPE your brows properly. Even if you don't have too much eyebrow hair, you may still need to trim your brows, but that's difficult to do if you don't know how to do it.

I agree that waxing can mess with your skins elasticity, so I go the threading route. When I get my brows threaded, I always make sure to tell the stylist (if I haven't used them before) to keep them thick, as I just need a slight shaping. I try not to ever thread above my brow either. If the technician is Indian, I always say "Indian style thick brows please!".

You may find it laughable that your brows make you look younger, but they really do. The space between your eyes and eyebrows is pretty important to your overall look. Opening up that space will make you look younger because that area shrinks as we age. Also it will make you look more awake and wide-eyed. When your eyebrows are too close to your eye (or stray hairs there distract the eye), you look older, maybe even more tired, and definitely a lot less polished.

But if you prefer the natural look- hey, it's your face right?

My only advice would be to never overpluck, definitely brush and trim your brows, and maybe try threading once to see how it makes you look.

According to Tom Ford, "A perfectly groomed and shaped brow is the most powerful, non–invasive way to define and enhance your features."

I say- enhance away!!
For every day use I would really look at Elise. It's stunning on my mom who has closer to your skin tone.

For night- depends on what you like.

Gabrielle #19 is a true red
Lune Russe #39 is a brick red
Cambon is really, really nice.

Instead of mademoiselle, I would try Satin #34.

Makeup shopping can be a lot of fun. Sometimes the sales people are sort of nasty (which never ceases to baffle me), but just remember to enjoy it!

I have this lipstick that I bought at Chanel for like $28. I probably could have found a similar shade for much cheaper. That said, every time I put that lipstick on, I feel like I'm in Paris. That beautiful rose scent, the gorgeous color, the smoothness of application... I could go on and on. I have only three lipsticks, and all of them are expensive Chanel ones. Yes it might just be the placebo effect, but if you feel and probably look 10 years younger, it's worth it for you to spend the money.

Enjoy your purchase! I'm jealous!

name pls?

Chanel rouge Coco in mademoiselle is the perfect pinky nude
Chanel Rouge Coco is a perfect red for evening
Chanel coco shine in Elise is what I keep in my purse. It's more of a shimmery gloss that you can even put on without a mirror.

Don't bother with the Chanel lip pencils (I use a lip pencil as a sort of primer to keep the lipstick on as long as possible). I use the boots no7 pencil in nude that I bought at target.

A very, very good dupe for the Chanel coco shine is the burts beeswax tinted lip balm in rose. No it doesn't look as beautiful (seriously people have stopped me on the street to ask me the color), but it looks lovely and natural.

I would definitely go try these on at the Chanel counter and I would also ask for samples if you buy anything!

Enjoy!

I visited the channel counter today and cocco rouge is the name of the line. What is the lipstick's name/number? The one for night time.... Also, what is your skin tone NYC2DC? What celebrity has a complexion similar to yours?

Thanks!

I was having the worst day, and this sweet message totally cheered me up.

You're right, I'm an idiot. The color I was talking about is cambon for nighttime.

The numbers are
Elise- 59
Cambon- 31
Mademoiselle- 05

My coloring is very similar to Selena Gomez.

My sister who looks exactly like a younger Denise Richards (I did not inherit those looks) loves Magnolia #117.

Lisa Eldridge loves Boy # 54

Here is a great comparison of the colors:

I would go to the counter, ask to try on the lipsticks. I try them on my fingers as they are closer in color to my lip tone.

When I buy something, I purposefully ask for samples.

If you have a decent salesperson, they will give you samples like a mascara and moisturizer. They even have lipstick samples sometimes.

Shipping is free on Chanel.com and they usually throw in some good samples.

For a neutral belt youll wear forever: $30ish?

Everything else- 20ish? Maybe more?
Anonymous wrote:Coconut oil is 10 bucks for a big jar that will last a long time. Coconut oil is great for those with REALLY frizzy hair as it moisturizes. Jojoba oil just creates shine for those with frizzy hair. I therefor recommend coconut oil. A little goes a long way. Experiment! Put it on with your hair soaking wet. It locks the moisture in. Use jojoba oil in the morning as a refresher.

+1

I don't have super frizzy hair, so jojoba oil works beautifully for me.

By the way, I use jojoba oil on long haul flights on my face religiously. I show up with amazing skin each time (and a lot of weirded out flight attendants/seat mates when I reapply every few hours).

one more point- coconut oil is probably the best shaving oil I've ever used. I think the $10 is probably worth it given all the uses!
