I just caved and plopped down $150 for an ounce of La Mer moisturizing cream. I may be insane!
I really love the texture, and after using it in the evening, my face in the morning looked dewy and 10 years younger. I fully realize this may be a placebo effect brought on by the fact that I just spent $150 on face cream. You reach a certain age and you start to get desperate, what can I say. Is this stuff just being sold by the greatest marketing geniuses of all time, or is it the real deal? If you've used it for a while I'd love to hear your thoughts. |
I tried it at a cosmetic counter and found it too greasy (I just got my first wrinkle -- but my skin still will break out...lovely!!). I was lured by their marketing also. Settled on some creams by laura mercier, which seemed to suit my skin better. But now that you say you look 10 years younger, maybe it's worth another try! Approaching 40 & I'm also beginning to feel desperate about my skin |
I love their daily sunscreen. The regular cream is way too rich for my skin, but I'm only 32. If it works for you and you can afford it, go for it. |
La mer is too heavy for me. But I hear wonderful things from people with drier skin.
I have this lipstick that I bought at Chanel for like $28. I probably could have found a similar shade for much cheaper. That said, every time I put that lipstick on, I feel like I'm in Paris. That beautiful rose scent, the gorgeous color, the smoothness of application... I could go on and on. I have only three lipsticks, and all of them are expensive Chanel ones. Yes it might just be the placebo effect, but if you feel and probably look 10 years younger, it's worth it for you to spend the money. Enjoy your purchase! I'm jealous! |
I'm a total sucker for La Mer! I love how it smells, and the cosmetic effect it has. You have to use it generously to see that "dewy" effect OP is talking about, so it's really unaffordable. I treat myself to a pot every year or so. |
I've been using la mer for almost 5 years. it is the only cream i've ever seen that can heal my skin. never any irritation, just glowing, healthy skin. it is simply the best and worth the price. In the summertime I swith to the la mer ultralight lotion. |
name pls? |
I quit spending money on La Mer and other expensive products and get laser every few years. |
Chanel rouge Coco in mademoiselle is the perfect pinky nude Chanel Rouge Coco is a perfect red for evening Chanel coco shine in Elise is what I keep in my purse. It's more of a shimmery gloss that you can even put on without a mirror. Don't bother with the Chanel lip pencils (I use a lip pencil as a sort of primer to keep the lipstick on as long as possible). I use the boots no7 pencil in nude that I bought at target. A very, very good dupe for the Chanel coco shine is the burts beeswax tinted lip balm in rose. No it doesn't look as beautiful (seriously people have stopped me on the street to ask me the color), but it looks lovely and natural. I would definitely go try these on at the Chanel counter and I would also ask for samples if you buy anything! Enjoy! |
Not pp but thanks!! |
I used La Mer from 30-32 and loved it. My skin looked amazing all the time. I stopped using it for 3 years, had a baby, and started up again one month PP. I don't know if my skin changed from pregnancy but something is definitely different. It feels a lot heavier and my makeup sticks now in certain places. I'm using the same makeup that I always have so not sure why that is.
I don't really love it any more. I keep hoping that it's going to make my skin look awesome again but it feels so heavy when I put it on every morning, and I keep having that strange clumping makeup problem. I think I'm going to try something new. |
I visited the channel counter today and cocco rouge is the name of the line. What is the lipstick's name/number? The one for night time.... Also, what is your skin tone NYC2DC? What celebrity has a complexion similar to yours? Thanks! |
I was having the worst day, and this sweet message totally cheered me up. You're right, I'm an idiot. The color I was talking about is cambon for nighttime. The numbers are Elise- 59 Cambon- 31 Mademoiselle- 05 My coloring is very similar to Selena Gomez. My sister who looks exactly like a younger Denise Richards (I did not inherit those looks) loves Magnolia #117. Lisa Eldridge loves Boy # 54 Here is a great comparison of the colors: http://karlasugar.net/2011/03/chanel-rouge-coco-shine/ I would go to the counter, ask to try on the lipsticks. I try them on my fingers as they are closer in color to my lip tone. When I buy something, I purposefully ask for samples. If you have a decent salesperson, they will give you samples like a mascara and moisturizer. They even have lipstick samples sometimes. Shipping is free on Chanel.com and they usually throw in some good samples. |
I tried a bunch today, but it was so hard to decide.... my complexion is similar to JLo or Eva Longoria (?) - what do you suggest? |
For every day use I would really look at Elise. It's stunning on my mom who has closer to your skin tone.
For night- depends on what you like. Gabrielle #19 is a true red Lune Russe #39 is a brick red Cambon is really, really nice. Instead of mademoiselle, I would try Satin #34. Makeup shopping can be a lot of fun. Sometimes the sales people are sort of nasty (which never ceases to baffle me), but just remember to enjoy it! |
