IF you are a slave to your hair, how do you handle pool time in the summer w/kids?

I am definitely a slave to my hair. It is long and very thick, and basically looks terrible unless I blow it dry and flat iron it/curl it. It actually looks pretty good once it is done, but I have to emphasize that it looks TERRIBLE when left to air dry. I usually get away with washing it twice per week. This summer, I have a one year old and we are at the pool almost every day. I don't know what to do.. despite my best efforts to put it up, some stupid kid invariably splashes me and it gets wet. I can't blow dry my hair every day- I have no time, especially now that we are down to one nap. What can I do other than walking around looking like crap all summer with gross hair?

Wow, how dare those stupid kids have fun at the pool!? Don't they know you don't have time in your busy days to blow dry your hair?!

I recommend a biting email to the other moms -- explain this outrageous splashing behavior and your hair care time needs. They will certainly treat you as you deserve from that point on.

I really hate it when adults have this attitude at the pool. You are at a POOL. You are going to get splashed and wet. If you don't like getting splashed, don't go.

I put mine in a braid, pin the braid up, and then wear a big hat on top. Also, I just ... let the looks go when it comes to something like that. The point of going to the pool is for the baby to learn to love the water, and to have a fun summer. It's not for me to look good at the pool. You know?

Your only option is to bake your head in formaldehyde and heat it -- er, get a "keratin treatment." Then you'll have flat smooth hair all summer.

OP here- I was joking about the stupid kids at the pool.. sorry if that came across as serious....

OP, can't you just wear it all the time? That way, if it gets wet and goes crazy, you can control it with some fun updo.

+1 "stupid kid" "splashing" at the pool. Wtf?!

OP, welcome to motherhood. It's time to get over yourself, wrap your hair and put on a hat like everyone else. Or cut off all your too tough to manage hair.

Bathing cap? Sleek Speedo sporty type or vintage ruffled type?

My hair is high-maintenance as well, and I was considering a bathing cap so that at least it is protected from all the pool chlorine. Just bought an outrageously frilly cap for my DD!

swim cap or tuck it under a baseball cap.

I just wear my hair in a bun. Between the weather, pools, and my children's hair-pulling, I find myself wearing it in a bun constantly. If it gets wet and messy, I just leave it and tell myself it looks more modern that way.

Do you work at an office, or stay at home? If you stay at home, get over your hair already. Who cares.

You can get shampoo and conditioner that is formulated to help overly-chlorinated hair. I saw this in a sporting-goods store today.

I usually wear a baseball hat while at the pool because my scalp burns easily. Now that my hair is longer, I pull it back into a pony tail before putting the hat on. So if it looks like crap, nobody will notice.
