I love, love, love Laura Mercier primer. Only problem - no SPF. In the colder/less sunny months, I wear it under Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer with SPF 20.
Now that it's summer & getting warmer, I feel like it's not enough SPF coverage (even for an indoor office worker like me). I know sunscreen is most effective when applied as the bottom layer. I've tried applying the Laura Mercier primer over sunscreen but that is a mess. So, please - recommend your primer with SPF. Ideally 30+ SPF. Also, I don't feel like I need as much tint/foundation-like coverage in the summer, so I'm looking for something with either no tint or really light coverage like a bronzing effect. |
To answer your question, I think I need a little bit more information. Why are you using primer? What aspect of Laura Mercier Primer makes you love it so much?
I use Neutrogena SPF 50 sunblock the minute I get out of the shower. I let that sink in while I towel off, etc. Once that has been absorbed, I put on some foundation (Chanel Vitalumiere), conceal (undereye with revlon undereye concealer, rest of face with Laura Mercier Secret Camo), then I powder with Chanel Loose Powder. The loose powder makes my face nice and matte, and prevents face sweat. For some reason, my upper lip and forehead sweat profusely (attractive!). I found that this powder is basically the only thing that prevents this. Then I do the rest of my makeup. But that's my base layer. For my purposes, I like foundation more than primer, and I think regular SPF works better than SPF mixed in with foundation, primer, etc. If you like your primer because it prevents your makeup from sliding off, I'd skip the primer, use regular SPF, and add some loose powder to your base layer. If you like your primer because it evens out your skin, I'd use regular SPF and add in some foundation. Here is a link to Lisa Eldridge's take on primer: http://www.lisaeldridge.com/video/1670/primer/ Best of luck! |
Thanks for the tips.
I love Laura Mercier primer because it's so light, and yet smoothes out my skin incredibly. Skin looks brighter and less splotchy/red areas. I'm looking something I can wear without foundation. I'm thinking of trying Dermalogica Age Smart Primer SPF30. |
Lisa Eldridge says the dermalogica primer is so shimmery she uses it as illuminator.
Foundation has changed a lot and probably could do that for you. That said, why not put powder sunblock over your makeup? If your primer works for you, keep using it! Maybe spray some on top to set your makeup? I keep a spray can of trader joes SPF 50 that I reapply every time I leave the house. I keep one by my computer at work too! |
I use LaRoche Posay primer. It has SPF 50 and does wonders to even my skin tone. It is a brand used and recommended by my dermatologist, but you can buy at CVS. I also use their moisturizer, which is SPF 15. |
Sounds great thanks for the tip! |
